Want opinions on engine compartment paint.
I put a 2007 Crown Vic IFS into my 77 F100. Decided to go with the engine and transmission from the Crown Vic too.
Previously the engine compartment was low gloss black with a 300 I6.
I'm thinking I want to paint the inner fenders and firewall the same Candy Red as the truck will be.
Question: If I paint the CV 4.6L engine cover and air intake system the same red will that be too much?
This picture is the engine inside a CV. Inside the F100 you will see a lot more of the inner fenders and firewall.
Is that going to be too much red? Do I just leave it alone?

My opinion? Yup,to much red. A lot of inner fenders & firewall staring/glaring at you. Maybe think along a contrasting color that might compliment the red and black hoses/plastics on the motor like a "gunmetal gray" or a fairly dark silver? Just thinking outloud. It will be nice no matter what I bet! gary

Aim for a balance of color... generally, stick to three or four - black, greys, chrome (yes, it counts as a color), and another color of your choice.
Use the main color for things you want to bring attention to (valve covers, air cleaner) and use black or greys for those things that should recede into the background. Chrome and bright silver act as the jewelry.
Don't be gaudy... simple elegance would be my main goal.

I'm doing my truck in glass black, I thought the same , that if I did the entire engine bay in glass black it'd be to much, originally my inner fenders were just galvanized steel so I repainted them argent silver= early 90's mustang rim color........they came out well, still have to assemble the front but I'm hoping the contrast on mine looks good.

Yes! A balance is what looks the classiest in my opinion! I have a car nut buddy that paints everything under the hood with EVERY can of spray paint he has on hand. Red, white, blue his main everything; THEN the yellows, greens etc,,etc. I always compliment his trying, but the underhoods look like a clown suit.
Btw, here is a pic gallery of engines from SEMA. They're bowties but check out how what I described above is implemented....
