Dealer Install Alarm
Hi all have another question.. When I purchase my truck it had an dealer install alarm in it. One of those you have to pay them to activate. I bought is used with only 5700 mi. on it and the salesmen activated if for free.. My question is when I 1st bought it you were able to press the 7-8 and 9-0 key on the keypad and it would sound the horn to let you know it was activated. Something happen and that when away. I ask the service adviser to check it out. He say that it dose not sound the horn. I know for a fact it did and I think cause I disconnect the battery it stop. They all think I'm crazy. and I might be a little but I know it did it. Do any of you have this on your truck and does it do what I said it did? Also how can I get it back. OH the horn does sound with the fob.Any help would be greatly appreciated.. Thanks for looking

SRB1194, Thanks for the reply. That's what the dealer says too. I just remember going to a park several times were I like to walk. I never take my keys so I lock the truck with the keypad. Once I press the buttons and walk away within a few feet I would here the beep beep of the horn. Thanks

Hi Brokenleg, Sorry for the confusion. When I 1st started using the keypad to lock the doors the horn would sound. Just like it does when you hit the key fob button. I disconnect the battery a while back and I think that what it made stop honking. When I press the 78 and 90 button on the keypad and walk away the horn would honk. That it now the lights flash to let me know the alarm is set. Thanks for replying..

But you'd be surprised how many people actually leave their keys in their vehicle in plain sight.
But that being said... anyone who knows you habitually leave your keys in the truck but then again most people still think vehicles need keys or if they see the button starter that they assume you have the key in your pocket; I rarely take my key out of my pocket when I start my day unless it is to lock/unlock my apartment door.
hmm I'm giving this more thought... that would be kinda cool to actually be able to leave my key behind in the vehicle; but how do you explain to someone where your truck keys are if it isn't on your keyring? Or what if someone happens to accidentally grab the door handle on your truck, this too unlocks the door if the key is within range (or in your truck! )

But I saw somewhere someone was wanting a way to keep their spare fob attached to their rig somehow (like a spare key box) but the fobs are too big to fit in those now; bad idea again because the fob is close enough to the rig to unlock it and start it.
I pretty much keep my fob with me throughout the day, once I leave the house it never leaves my pocket since there's no need to unless I need to access the physical key in an emergency; so your setup works better than mine as you have a physical key to start the truck; mine does not require a physical key just a finger
