rk40977, I'M SURE THAT D AND B MAKE THEIR OWN. WHAT I MEANT ABOUT THE 2O STARTUP THING WAS THAT I WAS GOING THRU 1 STARTER AFTER 2O STARTS, BUT WITH THE NEW FLYWHEEL STILL ON SAME STARTER AFTER ABOUT 2-3 YEARS.
GWB, THAT IS THE NUMBER THAT I HAVE HERE AT WORK WITH ME. I KEPT THE BOX THAT THE FLYWHEEL CAME IN. I WILL DIG IT UP AND SEE IF THERE IS ANOTHER NUMBER ON IT.
IF FOR SOME REASON THEY WENT OUT OF BUSINESS A PERSON MAY TRY L AND L PRODUCTS FOR A FLYWHEEL. THEY HAVE TO HAVE THEM FOR THEIR CONVERSION KITS. HOPEFULLY THEY WOULD SELL THE FLYWHEEL SEPERATELY.

Hope we get another phone number to try. L&L is a bit expensive. Having looked at a 390 starter, there doesn't seem to be any difference in the starter nose gear. It's a 9-tooth gear and appears to be the same size. Interestingly, even though the 390 is a 3-bolt mount it will still fit the 2-hole positions on a 351M.

I FINALLY FOUND THE BOX THAT MY FLYWHEEL CAME IN. THE PACKING SLIP HAS THE FOLLOWING INFO. D & B SALES, 2420 E. BRITTON RD., MORRICE, MICH. 48857, (517) 625-3451. I BOUGHT MINE 10-23-1998 AT A COST OF 307.54. I DID A REVERSE LOOK UP WITH THE PHONE NUMBER AND OT STILL CAME BACK TO B & D. THE OTHER INTERESTING THING THAT CAUGHT ME BY SURPRISE WAS THAT ALL OF THE PACKING TAPE WAS LABELED L & L PRODUCTS. AFTER GIVING IT SOME THOUGHT B & D MAY BE THE SUPPLIER TO L & L, MAYBE THAT IS THE REASON FOR IT BEING CHEAPER. YOU KNOW CUT OUT THE MIDDLE MAN TYPE OF THING. THEN AGAIN I COULD BE TOTALLY WRONG ABOUT THIS, IT HAS BEEN DAMN NEAR FIVE YEARS. SORRY I DID NOT HAVE A DIFFERENT NUMBER. GOOD LUCK.

Why does a lot of people say that L&L is so expensive? JBG sells the flywheel for $275. Centerforce is $299 (I think you still might have to have it machined down to fit). The L&L kit is $495. A reman clutch is $100 from napa and the disc I think is about $70. So you subtract the flywheels $275 from $495 and get $220. For that $220 You get a NEW clutch, a NEW disc, plus the flywheel bolts, the release bearing, and the pilot bearing. Not a bad deal for all that heavy duty stuff. On top of all that the flywheel is 40lbs not 29lbs like the FE flywheel, a much better weight for low end torque. Plus, its a bolt in, no worries kit! Granted, some of there products are a little expensive, like the PS and alt brackets, but, they are plentiful in the yards across the country.
SSHANK42, That's an L&L flywheel. It was drop shipped from L&L to you. The company you bought it from never even saw the package. JBG does the same thing. They get a volume discount and pass some of the savings on to the customer.

GWB, do you have a phone number for Centerforce?
Typefour, tell me more about that 91 starter. How would I know one if I saw it? What bothers me is these different numbers of flywheel teeth. How can the same starter gear match up correctly? I had enough physics to know tooth count matters!
And I think L&L is pricey because a round piece of metal used should go for about $50. Of course, cutting them yourself out of raw steel has to add to the price.

I think it was 1-800-522-1672 which led me to the man with the flywheel and that should be 1 -253-476-1600. Also I pull engine today and the back of the new flywheel there letters KE4-715 and was wondering if there was anybody knows which style this is. Thanks for any info again

Pulled motor again and tryiing the 390 flywheel cluth and pressure plate. So far had to chuck up bushing and turn if down to fit in crank ( would like to no the part number if there one for the correct fit) using a 429 bell and starter and that engageing correct. the last thing now is the input shaft cover hitting the cluth plate , taking a 1/4 off of cover and try again. Is this normal on this route. thanks for any info again

Just installed 71 429 with the above problems, to a T18. Made a 1/2 spacer plate , place it in between tranny and bell which seems to work except I now think it has the wrong flywheel because it viprates coming up on power. For the the release lever pushrod had to use the end of riding lawn mower steering knucle which put it in proper alignment . GWB
GWB, I think the vibration problem that you have is from your spacer between the trans. and the bellhousing, the bell housing has a precision hole for the input shaft bearing housing to fit into in order for the centerline of the crankshaft and the centerline of the transmission input shaft to maintain alignment. I did what you did once and had the same problem, only I ended up breaking the tube that the throwout bearing slides on. You really need to space the bellhousing back to keep everything straight. You can space the trans. back, but you need to machine the center hole pretty tightly and machine out areas for the bearing housing bolts.

What is the part number on the bellhousing you guys are using? I've done four conversions with 4 speeds and never had to do any of this stuff you guys are doing. I used all factory ford parts no aftermarket. There are two different 351-400 bellhousings and if you use a 429 bellhousing there is alot of room for the clutch.
