2000 F-150 Base 4.6L 2 door long bed

Good evening,
I really like this site. What I did not find or may have overlooked was info on tail light troubleshooting.....
I just had my truck's tail lights fixed.
Now, I know I need rear brake shoe replacements a.s.a.p.,
my question is, will the tail lights stay on after I shut my truck off and close its door because it needs brakes, or can a blown fuse cause the brake lights to stay on?
Thanks!

I wouldn't think either of those could cause the lights to stay on.

The tail lights light one element and the brake lights light the other element in the rear bulbs.
You do not really make it clear what is the problem you are having. My best guess is that the brake lights at the rear are staying on when there is no one in the truck pressing the pedal. The first thing I would check in that case is the adjustment of the brake light switch at the brake pedal.

If the tail light or running light is staying on, turn off the headlight switch. Or if it has automatic headlights either turn that feature off or adjust it so the lights go off quickly enough to suit you.

If the problem is the brake idiot light on the dash stays lit or is coming on then going back off, I would check the brake fluid to be sure that it isn't low.
