01 f250 cruise won't power up

Hey all,
Cruise won't power up. Tried entering diagnostics but did not get any flashes. By-passed switch on master cylinder, did not make any difference. Horn honks. Brake lights work correctly. Any other thoughts?
Thanks

While holding the off switch turn the key to on. The cc indicator in the cluster should flash once indicating that it has entered diagnostics mode. If you don't get the flash you might have a blown fuse or bad switch, but there's a lot to check. The light should briefly come on in the cluster when you turn the key on to show that the bulb is good.

Thank you, I do not remember the light coming on at all when I first turn on the key, so maybe there is something there. I did try hitting the 'on' button and tried setting the cruise just in case the bulb was bad, but still did not work. Will keep chasing it.

If the recall was performed, you must also check the continuity of the fused harness in addition to the switch itself.

Check fuses F5, F13, and F15 under the dash.

After that, you'll need to break out a meter and make some voltage checks.

So, found two 2.5 amp fuses in wiring harness below master cylinder, not sure if they are the one’s suggested or not. One was bad, but changing it did not help. The master cylinder switch shows continuity and jumping the plug did not help either. The 6 prong clock spring connector shows voltage on three wires feeding the plug (black W/pink 12.4 Volts – fuse 13, Blue wire 11.4 volts – don’t know source, and Blue W/ping only 0.6 volts, three wires have continuity to ground Black, Blue W/ Red, and Gray W/ red. Light on dash never lights up, even when key is turned on, so will not enter diagnostic’s. Tried setting cruise on trip just in case light was bad, but nothing worked. Could light and rear differential switch be bad? Could it be something in the clock spring? Thanks

Well, turns out it was the fusible link below the master cylinder and a bad dash light. Light does not come on when you cycle the key, but cruise is now working. Thanks All.

It's in the recall harness as I described in post #4.

I don't see any fuses below the master cylinder. This must mean my truck did not have the recall fix performed on it

You will not "see fuses", they're buried in the recall harness and there were multiple version of that harness manufactured.

Go look up your VIN at Ford's recall check site and see what the status of your truck is regarding recall 05S28. If it hasn't been done, disconnect the switch on the master cylinder and inspect it for any fluid. Leave it disconnected for safety's sake regardless if you do not have the fused harness installed.
