I have just purchased a 01 limited and it to rise much harder than my 00 xlt.

01 limited 84k miles and stock shocks, rise nice but not as smooth
00 xlt 173k had blown factory all the way around that caused tbe bumpstops to fail i then put rs9000x nitrogen. Shocks in it ask the way around, 7k miles the front left is out and leaking, front right works and adjusters okay operation, rear Adjusters move 3 positions not 9, and for the 460$ in them I'm not happy. Im getting monroe reflex put on the 84k 01 limited tomorrow
I have a set of the old rs9000 rancho fronts and really wish i had rear to match.
I'll keep you posted on the reflex

Sure, the OEM shocks provided a nice comfortable ride but those are now 10-15 years old and probably should have been replaced around the 50,000 mark.

So my question is, why not just replace with OEM?

Reading from the posts in this thread, it seems like some of these guys are having issues with the aftermarket ones.

So why not just stick with OEM?

Many people do stick with OEM, Ford dealers sell heaps of shocks.

opinions

Any feedback on the kyb or monroe from personal experience?

Also how long do shocks typically last for on big heavy trucks like this before they need replacing?

My bilsteins on my last truck were on there for almost 6 years when I sold it. Still rode like a champ. I have had Rancho's and they were terrible on my OBS and on the Excursion. That was pretty much the first thing I did was trash them.

I just threw away a full set of Rancho 9000s that only had about 15000 miles on them, replaced them with the Bilsteins I should have went with in the first place!

I have the rancho 9000xl and have no real complaints. They adjust fine and make a difference in damping while towing heavy. I bought on amazon so I would always have access to my receipt as I have read that they need it for the warranty. The Bilstiens are pricey but a lot of people like those also. I pulled a set of Monroe's off that worked just fine (heck I even sent them to someone else on the forum) but wanted a slightly longer shock due to spring change and wanted to try the adjustable ones.
