Transfer case won't seperate from transmission adapter, please help!
I'm on day 3 of an engine removal... (doing this for the first time) Now I'm stuck! It appears that the transfer case is ceased onto the transmission adapter. I've soaked the joint in WD40 and so far no luck.
Can I take the transmission and engine without the adapter and then take the transfer case and adapter together? Sorry, this might be common sense to most, but I'm following a haynes manual and it says to seperate the transfer case from the adapter first.

I don't remember the specifics of the adapter, but my advice would be to spend more time separating the transfer case from it. Are you sure you have all of the bolts out? They're evenly spaced (more or less) around that circular-like tube.
If so, and it's still stuck, set up some vibration to break the connection (which I would imagine is cased by corrosion). IOW beat on it with a hammer.
Seriously, pound around the circumference with a rubber mallet or maybe a normal hammer if you don't hit too hard, maybe a piece of wood to pound on would take up any damage-inducing sharp blows and still allow vibration through, you'd have to try it.
But vibration and a pry bar come to mind; I really don't know offhand if that adapter can be readily separated from the transmission and if doing that would even help you any.

Yep, just the six bolts. There's also an alignment dowel that fits really tight too. I just had mine apart a couple of months ago and it was a real pain. What I did was take a small punch or screwdriver through the gasket to get it to start. Once there was a small gap, I pried on opposite sides to split them apart. Try to start by the alignment dowel, and also try not to damage the mating surfaces.

Got it off!
And yes, I used PB Blaster too. I normally try WD40 first on anything, then the WD40 Specialist(probably the same stuff, sales gimmick...), then PB Blaster and finally Freeze Off.
Anyway, the screw driver through the gasket did the trick to break the seal, from there it was easy.
Now the transmission mount bolts are out and the engine mount nuts are off. Ready for lifting, I hope...
Still need to get a load leveler and some lifting straps before I can attempt that though. I'll update my 'tinker' thread on 'Eddy Myrtle' once I'm successful! Or I'll be back needing more help before then...
