Transmission

I have a 1994 Ford F150 5.0, 4R70w transmission. The other day it started giving me problems moving forward. From a stop I would have to give it a lot of gas and then it would jump forward. No problem moving after that. I could go in reverse with out a problem. I decided to change the transmission filter. Did not find any metal once I drained to fluid. I put in a new filter and topped the transmission off in neutral. Could not get the truck to move after that. Will not go forward or reverse.

06 F150 4x4 no forward

Transmission rebuilt 20k ago. All of the sudden tonight I go to Wendy's and have no forward . ..little movement, but full reverse . No burnt smell or anything . It was in an accident in April, and the FORD dealer replaced the cooler. When I was driving it out of state for work I discovered the dealership didn't install the seal and line properly and had to continuously full the granny all the way from Florida to Virginia where the insurance had the line replaced . Drove with no problem from Virginia to Louisiana been here for a month and a half. I did notice that the dipstick indicates the fluid level is double what the hash marks are telling me that the second shop out too much fluid in. I am changing the fluid, filter and gasket in the morning in a likely fruitless attempt to fix my transmission without spending another $2500. Any thoughts on what could be the cause or anything to look for ?

Your truck is about 10 years too new for this forum. You'll get better responses if you ask in the appropriate forum.

Of course, why do I even bother. You found this place with a google search. You likely don't even know what you're looking for.

I do in fact know what I'm looking for though it's been 20 years since I have rebuilt an automatic transmission . I was searching threads for the same symptoms . Though I got my ASE certs in 1995 and am just a civil engineer now.

I decided to post here because I saw some professional answers, and was expecting an informative response

The issue is the '06 trucks are very, very different than the '96 trucks. The people that know about the '06 trucks don't really visit this section of the forum, and vice-versa. The people in the '06 section are far more knowledgeable about your truck.

Mrrolling's post was definitely unnecessarily rude, though.

Not really the same. The later 4R70Ws have a lot of internal electronic and hydraulic differences, as well as a completely different control system compared to that makes diagnosing them different from the earlier trucks.
