OT. THE biggest welder I've ever seen

So i'm at a guy's speed shop having some work done and I see this welder which is the biggest, baddest welder I've ever seen. It's TIG ! Thought you guys might enjoy it.

Old school for sure. Lots'o copper inside that machine compared to anything modern. Definitely a work horse, run it all day, and it'll never complain. But a bit iffy with precision work though.

I did this for a guy at work to show his brother that was interested in buying my welder I had here at home. It's .045 rod welded togather with .010 filler wire.

Tell me when he's going to use it again. I will walk outside and look toward the east so that I can see the flash come over the horizon.

He got it from a ship yard in Baltimore, MD. It was set and ran all day welding thick plate. I have no idea how he got it to his shop.

We had that exact welder at the Caterpillar dealer I worked at. Same cart too. I thought someone had made the cart. Must be a Miller cart. We still used a forklift to move it around. It was great for welding up the thick aluminum oil pans.

I'd have used it a LOT more if it had that sticker on it!

LOL that was good. I looks like a furnace. He said it was portable, and has it's own water tank in the bottom, I'm not sure what for, but I didn't ask cause I don't know much about tig welders. He said it's a tig.

portable is a bit misleading, it weighs close to 900 lbs or so. the water tank is to cool the tig torch.

OK, "portable". LOL. It does have steel wheels and a long handle. Maybe just to haul it close by.

yup, htat is what the wheels and handle are for, moving it closer to the work instead of moving the work to the welder.
