P0261 code

Hi all. the last couple days the truck has been a hard start in the morning. about 28 deg F. I thought the glow plugs were getting weak or a couple of them were out.
Hooked up my AE and pulled codes, one of them was P0261 # 1 inj.
Truck is fully warmed up and is running fine.
Did a koer glow plug test and it came back ok.
power balance looks good now. Probly looked different when I finally got it started this morning. Took 3 cranks to get her goin and it sounded like **** till it got a bit warmer.
Any thoughts??

add a treatment of Archoil 9100.

What was the FICM at KOEO and while cranking?
Main battery voltage KOEO and while cranking?

ok just to note I had the block heater plugged in all night as the temp is 26 deg f
I disconnected the glow plug wire from batt
koeo: ficm 47.5, batt volt 12.5
cranked over batt volt 11.57, truck started right away, the ficm might have gon down a volt during cranking??
with engine running ficm 46 to 47.5

One more thing is I never got the p0261 code thismorning, yesterday when I got the code the truck was cold, not plugged in.

I'm no expert here, but I switched to Rotella T6 5w-40 with archoil 9100 and my truck starts and runs noticeably smoother at cold start. It's worth a shot to at least try Archoil 9100 for stiction problems. I tried it with 15w40 and could not notice much until I switched to T6 5w40.
Good Luck

The 5w-40 is full synthetic, less susceptible stiction.

Hi All. Ok id did a re test thismorning with the engine cold, Not plugged in temp is 30 deg f
KOEO ficm 47 v, batt 12.5V
Cranked engine and started FICM dropped to 40v ( or maybe lower since my AE will only read no lower then 40)
Let it idle for 5 min FICM went between 40v and 44v ant the last few seconds before I shut it down it reached 46v
I guess I need a new FICM
Any thoughts Please??

WatsonR, I have ran 15/40 non-syn sense new. I have had good success with non syn oil. at 240K I did all my inj seals, stand pipes and dummy's, oil rail seals, and havnt had a issue with anything HPOP related. change oil every 6-7K religiously
I do run 0w/40 in my old 7.3DI though

Well the FICM needs love!

How is your charging system health? Pull the Alt and batteries and head to your local box store and have all 3 tested! You might be surprised that you find issues there! 99% of the time the FICM dies because of the charging system.

#1 injector is easy peasey to do! My first injector was #5! That was a gem!

Oil change interval is a bit long! These things like fresh oil around 5k. 5w-40 is a nice addition to the engine. Run a round of Hot Shot diesel treatment with an oil change. It will get all the crude out of your engine.

Batteries are new
I'm in Canada so my oil changes are done at 6000 -7000 KM not miles
Thanks for the info

At 40v FICM is toast. 5w-40 may give it a little easier starting, little thinner oil in the morning won't be as hard on it.
