1968 330 Fe or Ft?

I just picked up a motor and trans from a guy for $200 bucks. He advertised it as a 390. I have started to break it down and found the motor tag to say 330. I was wanting the block for a 390 build where I found my block was cracked and needed a replacement. Is this a total loss or just a change of plans?

Probably a 360? They all magically become 390 on sale day.

The 330 was a medium truck engine. It came in medium and heavy duty versions. The medium duty has the same size crank as an FE--same as the 352 and 360. The heavy duty job has the larger crank snout as found in the 361 FT. The engine mount should be a single mount off the front cover, which would be iron instead of aluminum. The rear mounts were off the bell.

If it is a 330, it has a 3.875 bore and won't make a 390 or even a 352 for you. Unless it's a runner as is, and you know someone trying to replace a 330, it's junk.**

Go back and find that rascal that sold it to you, offer him the iron back for the $200, or some lead for free.*

*serving suggestion, may constitue a felony, may result in prison time, ymmv.

** unless you want to pay $100-$150 per hole and sleeve it out to a bigger bore, which might as well be the 4.23" 427 bore--you'll have a "396" (well, 393) with the 3.50 stroke.

NP435 with a PTO--probably a dead giveaway this came out of an F600 or similer.

What size is the input shaft? Pickups use 1 1/16th", mediums 1 3/8". Discussion on and on and on...

FORDSIX PERFORMANCE ? View topic - Ford use of NP435-WarnerT18/T19

Again, if you find someone who needs it for their medium or someone who knows how to swap parts around to make it work for their pickup.....

The mounts you're talking about I do have, but don't see how they couldn't be installed the same way on an FE. I pulled the balancer and measured the crank. 1 3/8 just like my 352.

Your truck has the side mounts on the block, right?

Is the suspected 330 drilled for those mounts?

If it's a runner it's a dandy truck engine. No powerhouse but they run nice when they are running right.

This block has them too. The casting number is C7ME-A. It is still even blue under the dirt.

I agree with the big truck engine. Just curious does it have 352 in raised numerals on the front of the block drivers side.

Further research has led me believe that this 330MD can in fact be bored to 4.05 with no problems. I am going to talk to my machinist and see if he is comfortable taking it that far and pick up a 390 rotating assembly and new pistons. I have also found many opinions against this, but most of them are surrounded by this "FT" vs FE confusion.
