I'm getting ready to do a flush and want to go ahead and buy my ATF. Looking for recommendations on what brand Mercon V or compatable to get.

MerconV supertech from Walmart was cheapest at $4.27 a quart last may. Everything else was around $6+ per quart. I did have to hit three different stores though for all twenty required to do Mark K's flush procedure.

Just got back from Walmart and couldn't find the Supertech Mercon V on the shelves. I guess I can order it on-line? Also, I'm a fan of the SuperTech line and generally buy it when I can but I have never considered using their ATF. Who do you think makes it for them?
I guess in any case it has to meet specifications.

Valvoline maxlife ATF. Works in just about anything, is cheap and there's plenty of it. I've had great luck over the years.

Warren Distribution makes the Supertech Mercon V. Never heard of them, but it looks like they also make most of their motor oils including the full synthetics.

I did a fluid and a filter change last year using mark's method. I used a Amsoil Signature ATF made for vehicles that take Mercon and Mercon V. A couple years ago I did the same on my dads 03' but used Motorcraft Mercon V. Obviously the MC Mercon V was a good bit cheaper than the Amsoil. No issues with either ATF as of yet.

If it says MerconV then it is licensed and approved by Ford. If it says Recommended it is not.

The older Dex/merc is no longer approved or licensed by Ford hence the change to MerconV. If you have not changed your filter now would be a good time to do so.

So I read that it's not necessary to replace the filter? Just use Marks method of replacing the ATF?

Here's what I have done on every vehicle (auto trans) that I have owned for 30 years....

At 20k miles, I change the filter (due to possible residual/initial wear particulates that may be floating inside) and either drain the torque converter (if so equipped with a plug) or disconnect the trans cooler line at the radiator, fill the pan with fresh fluid, my wife starts the engine and when 2-3 quarts drain into a bucket, she shuts it off, I refill the pan and repeat until the fluid is clear and in case of the f150, 14 quarts of fresh fluid is in.

I change only the fluid after that (unless I determine substances/contamination in the oil). The intervals vary depending on the type of trans, type of fluid and conditions, but in general, every 30k miles. Heat is a killer on automatic trans fluid and when we lived in the desert area, I changed the trans fluid at the end of summer every year.

In regards to filters, oem is fine, but I typically use Wix.

In regards to trans oil, both in sticks and autos I have always used Valvoline.

I have also never had a trans failure in any vehicle I own and typically keep my vehicles for 10+ years, with over 100k on the odometer.

This past summer using Mark's system I flushed two 4R70W's with Motorcraft brand AFT, bought from the dealer of all places---a full TWO DAMNED DOLLARS less than anywhere else for good quality ATF.

Like BeechKid I'd use Valvoline MaxLife otherwise---great products over all.
