Cool Broke down in Deming New Mexico

I have kind of been a stranger on this forum for a couple of years. The work on my '52 F1 has come to a standstill while I move out of the state of CA. I know there are a few of you guys in and around Albuquerque that might be able to give me some information.

While moving my worldly belongings from Bakersfield CA to Tulsa OK my F350 power stroke diesel broke down in Deming NM. I had to leave my truck there and continue on to Tulsa with the hopes of having the F350 brought to Tulsa on a carrier. Well I've been trying to arrange that for most of a month now without success. I have decided to have my truck repaired there. It is heavy because I have my lathe, mill, 2 air compressors and a welder in the bed and everyone says it is too heavy for them.

I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations on a diesel shop that is familiar with the Ford 7.3s. I could have it towed a short distance for the repairs then rent a car & drive down & pick the truck up. A shop in Las Cruces or El Paso would be preferred.

Thanks for any help I can get.

Sorry to hear that you're truck left you on the road. At least it wasn't in Lordsburg...ugh. I don't know any shops in Deming. I've had some experience with Richard's Towing in Deming, at one time they had a shop but I don't think they have mechanics anymore. Richard is an honest guy and might know someone in Deming that could help you out;

Las Cruces is a lot bigger town and should have more places to get your truck fixed. Again, I don't have much experience with shops in the Cruces area. I've had some of my customers take their trucks to Border International in Las Cruces and seem to have decent luck. I don't know if they work on smaller trucks but it might be worth a call;

I wish I had better info for you. Have you tried finding a New Mexico or Las Cruces FTE member on the powerstroke board? There's bound to be someone from down there that could give you some better advice

Good luck

I forgot to mention that I'll probably be down in the Las Cruces area the week after next, probably the 3rd through the 5th or so. I think I'll be in Silver City and Deming during the day on the 3rd and ending up in Las Cruces that evening.

If there is something I can do for you while I'm down there, let me know

I feel for you Fixnair. My wife's foreign SUV broke down this summer in the middle
of nowhere in West TX. Ozona - Try finding a foreign electric water pump there. Towing
is pricey - seems like it ran $8 a mile. We towed our's 154 miles to civilization - AAA covered the first 100 miles.

Looking on Yelp ...
Todd's Axis Motors in Silver City get's 6 good reviews.

E&M Auto Repair in Deming has a couple of good reviews from broken down travelers.

Silver City is a really nice town 50 miles up the road. If I had to spend a few days fixing a car in that neck of the woods - I'd choose Silver City or Las Cruces.

Good luck. Tulsa is a nice choice.

I would also maybe post your symptoms over in the 7.3 section. It could be something simple that you could do yourself. You could post it here too, as there are a few of us that have some 7.3 experience.

Thanks Nick. I have already posted in the 7.3 forum with lots of replies. Ross had a good suggestion which I think I'll act on. He suggested to remove the machinery from the bed and then have it towed. Then pick up the machinery in another truck. Good idea!

There should be some decent diesel mechanics in Silver City. Its a mining town situated right in the middle if several large open pit copper mines. I'll be there next Wednesday
