Gotts Mod, lolololol..

I'm still laughing after watching a video on youtube about the 'gotts mod' which basically entails removing a velocity stack from the airbox and greatly disturbing airflow while increasing turbulence and cabin noise from intake drone..

WTH are these people thinking or are they even thinking, did some misguided fool tell them that a velocity stack reduces performance by increasing air speed ?

Anyways, i thought it was pretty funny and a perfect example of the placebo effect

I feel the same way about people that replace a perfectly tuned air intake system and throw it away only to spend $1200 on a CAI and gain absolutely nothing but your friends attention..

There may have been something to it in the 1990s and with exhaust systems as well, but with the CAFE requirements for today's vehicles, I think manufacturers have picked the low hanging fruit first. FWIW, I put a S&B conical air filter on my 99 Ford Ranger 4.0L and got a nice low-end and mpg improvement. 2002 Subaru, 2003 Tundra and 2011 F150 Ecoboost got nothing, and even ran worse.

It makes more noise so it must be faster, i think it's a really cute mod for the wannabe car guy that likes to flip over the air cleaner lid on grandmas 75 Monte Carlo but totally worthless for anything post OBD..
