2016 F250 Crewcab 4x4 w 6.2L - Which rear for towing?
I am seriously considering selling my 2005 F250 CC 4x4 6.0L diesel and replacing it with a 2016 F250 CC 4x4 with the 6.2L. I pull a 6000 lb pound trailer long distance through some fairly hilly terrain. Which rear would you recommend for towing a trailer of this weight and why? Also, my research here implies that I could expect about 11 mpg pulling the trailer with the 4.30 gearing and this isn't so bad because this is what I currently get with the 6.0L diesel. Is 11 mpg realistic with the 6.2L in a 4x4 crewcab with the 4.30 rears? Thanks.

I would go with the 4.30 gears, last summer I pulled my inclosed trailer helping a friend move and I averaged around 11. The trailer weighed 7 to 8K when loaded and made about the same mileage unloaded, it's more about wind resistance when you are pulling a box on the flat than the weight.

Sorry about a little bit of hijacking...I have a 250 with the 6.2 and 3.73 rear end. At 70 I'm taching 1.8k roughly, with 4.30's I'd be over 2000 RPM. If I lock out 6th,wouldn't be the same as 4.30's? If I'm towing large it might be usefull starting out.
Just a question folks...I'm not towing more than 8K.

An example would be a 10 to 1 multiplier would take 100 ft lbs to torque a bolt to 1000 lbs but a 5 to 1 would take 200 lbs to do the same thing. It's all in mechanical advantage.

tire/wheel size,,, final drive gear ratios... then transmission ratios...
why do you think some bigger Trucks have 2 speed rear ends...
think of a tight/rusted bolt.. and using a 6 inch wrench.. then a 12 inch wrench..
same turning an axle...
so transmission can not make up the leverage.. it can help some... but not completely
