A Couple More Cold Weather Questions

On a 1999 F-250 7.3 PSD is there an in-line filter in addition to the bowl filter on top? I thought not but folks here keep referencing one and I cannot find anything about that in my manuals.

If Number 1 diesel is not available, what about adding K-1 Kerosene? I always thought this was inadvisable but do not know if that is anything more than a fuel tax issue.

There is a pair of screens in the tank on the sending unit that are often removed when doing the Hutch mod, but nothing else in-line really. Most of us that remove the screens in the tank replace them with a Racor PS120 mounted to the frame somewhere. This provides the same sort of screen as Ford did, but makes it much easier to service it or keep an eye on the fuel.

That is a good idea. Filters buried in the tank could be a problem. It might also help to have a drain **** for draining water near the in-line filter, just thinking.

K1Kerosene can be mixed with diesel to aid in cold climates with antigel. They use a bunch of it in Alaska but K1 is very dry, meaning it doesn't have very much lubricity. Just buy some Antigel like DieselKleen and add it every time you fill up.

or do what I do and run a bit of ATF in the tank when filling up (I usually try close to a 30/70% mix of ATF to diesel/K1 (if I can't find the Diesel I want) which helps with lubrication and also clesns the gunk out if any of the injectors and bit like that...

While winter lasts, a bottle of DPS White with each fill up. I do know a station which offers a winter blend of 1 & 2. It is 40 cents per gallon higher than straight Nu. 2 but may be worth it. Still need to add de-water additive.

I can't understand why K-1 costs more than #2 diesel, it didn't use to but it does now.
