Heater Blend Door, Climate Control Module Issues
I have a 2009 F-150 Super Crew. About a year ago, I was driving through AZ in the winter, it was around ~19 degrees outside and the wife was complaining about how cold it was in the car. As she often gets cold, I thought she was just being dramatic as I had the heater blasting and it was quite warm in the truck. Turns out though, despite the heater being on, the air coming on around her feet was absolutely freezing cold. I looked up this issue on the forums, and figured that the heater blend door was probably busted on the passenger side. Realizing that this would not be a cheap fix, and living in Southern California where it does not really get that cold, I put off fixing it.
Now that it is Winter time though, I would really like to be able to go to the mountains with my wife and not have her freezing to death as we drive around in the truck, so I took it to my local Ford dealership to get it fixed.
Turns out I was correct, and the lower passenger heater blend door does need to be replaced. Here is the main point of my post though. The dealer says that the heater blend door motor is actually being shorted out by the climate control module. So before they can replace the heater blend door motor, the climate control module needs to be replaced first. Now for the kicker though. Ford has discontinued that part.
Part Number: 9L3Z-19980-Y

So the dealer gave me my truck back, and says if I can find that part on ebay or something, I can bring it back to them to fix it. That part is probably around $200, and the new blend door and labor would be around $550 according to the dealer so I am looking at nearly an $800 service just get get my heater to work.
Does anyone have any advice on what I should do? I am currently having trouble finding this part, and $800 seems like a ton of money for all of this. Can I just stick a rag in the heating system somewhere to get around this? And do I have any legal recourse as I believe manufacturers need to make these parts for at least 10 years?
If anyone has had a similar experience or any advice that it be greatly appreciated. Thanks all!
