Early shifting is an adjustment problem (assuming you did the shift kit installation correctly).
See if you can get access to a ford powertrain manual and copy the trans adjustment portion.
Most dealers have the older ones in their library and also look in your public library as some have them also.

Hey Guys! From what I remember, there were 2 to 3 holes that needed to be drilled larger, to enhance the pressure of the fluid in the cavities. I'm sure you both have done this? And you have installed the kick-down cable in it's OEM position and made the adjustments per instructions?
Sorry guys if I'm hashing over stuff you may have done already. It's been awhile since performing the install. I'll let smeone else jump in here if this isn't helping... Talk with you guys later....

"it's not a truck its a gran torino"
Woah there, verify your ratio, because some of those did have some tall gears in them, and if it is tall as heck, the first gear shift into second might be a while down the road. If the ratio is fairy tall 2.50:1 or 2.79:1 it might not shift as fast as one with 3.90:1 or 4.11:1
"just needed some answer and by adjustment do you mean kickdown rod and other stuff like that"
The vacuum modulator adjustment controls how early or late it will shift.
