so i bought this truck just before thanksgiving. it wasn't running, it needed a radiator and carb to get running. so after acquiring those parts, and many others, i am at a point i could use some help with.

the carb needs a rebuild so out of frustration i dumped some gas down the carb and cranked it to see if it would run. it wanted to. while i was cranking it, it acted like it would run, but as soon as i let off the key it would die immediately. this leads me to believe i am loosing power to the ignition somewhere. am i heading in the right direction?
i know it could be many other things, so what would you guys suggest?

 

You could ad a wire from the positive side of the battery, to the positive side of the ignition coil then try to start the engine. If it runs, then you know you have a power issue in the ignition. Remove that power wire after you try it, you don't want to burn up a coil.

i have printed out the schematics from Fordification, so that should help as well.
