16x10 vs 16x8 for 315/75r16

Going to run some new 315/75r16 BFG Mud Terrains on my 78 F250.

Most likely with a ProComp 1069 wheel.

Just trying to decide between a 10inch and 8inch wheel. I think both should fit fine, so it's a matter of looks and what will prolong the life of the tire the most.

Here's what she looks like now with 33's:

Anyone have any pics with a similar combination or care to offer your opinion on which i should go with??

Thanks!

I use my rule of 2 or at least try to. That 315/75r16 a 34.7 tall and 12.4 wide, I would use a 10" wide rim.

31x10.50x15 use a 8" wide rim
33x12.50x16 use a 10" wide rim
Using a too narrow of a rim will round out or balloon your side walls.

I currently have 16x8 procomp wheels with 33" tires for now. I'm going to switch to 35s and keep the same wheels. It all depends on what you like either width will be fine.

Looks really good man! Would be interested to see pics once you get your new tires.

Anyone know how the tires will stick out of the fenders with 10 inch wheels?
Pics on a 10inch would be awesome.

To the OP and Boggin79, both trucks look killer!

Is that a 4" or 6" lift on yours Boggin79? Any other pics of that truck with the steelies on it? I remember you posting back when you got the truck with it having grey steel wheels and BFG's.

Along with that, has anyone put 315/75/16's on factory steel wheels? I've seen 35x12.50's on custom steelies as well as 285/75's on factory steelies, but not sure if the factory rims are wide enough for the 315/75/16 like the OP is asking about.

I love the old school tall & narrow look rather than the newer fad of wide stance FWIW.

This is back before my clear coat started peeling everywhere.... 315/75/16 on a 16x10 mickey Thompson classic II wheel. Truck is jacked up in the front and rear with a floor jack to simulate a 2" suspension lift over the stock height.

So to answer the thread id do a 16x10!

I just put 315/75/16 BFG All Terrains on my 16x8.5 rims and I think they look awesome. If I can get a pic today I'll post it up.

With that much sidewall it doesn't really matter.

16x10" <--- 10x8"

I always like the look of a tire mounted on a wider wheel though.

Take it for what it's worth, as my opinion is completely biased. As I run my truck tires on extremely wide wheels.

Sweet truck there Boggin!! What brand of wheels are on those 35"? I really like the look of those, reminds me of the OBS Alcoa's.

I recommend the 8" wide wheel. I have 10s on my super duty with 315s. The 10s fit, but the sidewalls are pulled out and more exposed to hazards. I have one mounted on the factory 7" or 7.5" steel wheel as a spare, and that looks better. So I would go with 8s if I was doing it.

That pic was from before i got the truck they removed those wheels and tires and put on the steelies with the smaller tires. but they look like 16x8 eagle alloys series 058.
