96 f150 dual tanks fuel question
I just picked up a 96 f150 with the 351 motor and auto transmission. The truck has dual tanks. It had been sitting up for about a year, only cranked a couple of times during that period, with low fuel in the tanks. The truck cranks and runs perfect for a short period of time, then begins to stumble like its running out of fuel. Usually I would think a pump issue or pressure regulator, filter, something of that nature. However you can switch tanks and the truck will pick right up and run great for a few minutes. Then begins to act like its starving for fuel. Switch tanks and all is great till the problem repeats. Each time you switch tanks it runs great briefly. Open to any ideas of where to start figuring this one out. Thanks in advance.

Welcome to FTE!
It would be rare to have both fuel pumps go bad at the same time, but very likely the fuel is stale, contaminated, etc. Modern fuels typically have an ethanol component that is known to absorb moisture. Siphon the tanks, then add some fresh fuel. When the truck is running at idle you should have ~ 30-35 PSI fuel pressure, 40-45 when you remove the vacuum line from the fuel pressure regulator. Rent a gauge to verify.

Fuel elimination
I want to run just off my back tank. I put the bronco tank in the rear I remove the front tank I have no plans of putting the front tank back in I think it's a waste of space and to me it's more upkeep more money than it is just to keep it so return I remove the first tank and put air tanks in the back to run my air horns or or if I need it run air tools and just use the fuel door made my own special plate so The air linesare easy accessible my question is is can I remove the fuel's selector switch the two front tank lines and just have the rear tank lines I would think I can run in the tank just like it was like if the truck was a bronco but I'm unclear how that works. or what not. I might be guessing second-guessing myself but I would imagine that I can just use the switches just like an antitheft switch of and just run the lines are connected lines and remove the front tank lines any help would be to appreciate it

Gatorcowboy, welcome to our corner of the web! I would do as rla2005 suggests and rent or buy a fuel pressure gauge. Just about any major auto parts chain will rent you one for a fully refundable deposit. Watch the gauge as you switch tanks and again when it starts to die, that'll be the best way to see what's really going on.
