Exclamation what can tow my truck?

I have a 1964 Ford 1 ton truck, and it's too big and heavy to put on even the biggest uhaul trailer. Where do I rent a trailer big enough to fit this beast on? I would just drive it but don't know how well it would survive a 400 mile trip to new location. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Local equipment rental (ie renting track-hoes, skidsteers, etc) should have heavy trailers to rent, but I assume you really want a one-way rental so you don't have to return the trailer 400 miles back? In that case I'm out of ideas.

so far, the best vehicle hauler I have been able to find has a max load capacity of 6,ooo lbs. The truck in question weighs 6700-7000 lbs, that's where my problem lies. Even going to heavy equipment rental sites, that's my best option, and it just isnt good enough will keep looking tho

First, Hello and Welcome to the site.

Have you thought about buying a trailer that fits your needs? Make your move then resell the trailer. You might make a buck or two, or break even. Even if you did take a loss it would most likely be less than a 400 mile one way rental.
Where you are, and where you are heading might have a lot to do with that decision.

Other thoughts would be to flat tow the rig, or possibly rent a tow dolly.

Good luck.

with the cost of a USED trailer going for 3-5 grand over here (and none of those will even hold the weight of the truck), it is def NOT cheaper to buy one and then take who knows how long to resell it. add to that the initial cost exceeds the moving budget... as it is we are looking at 2500 bux to move all our stuff from old place to new (doing all the work ourselves and renting 2 uhaul trucks). Add to that we will also have to trailer behind those 2 trucks, 2 vehicles. Add to that the cost of moving 2 stallions and 3 mares 400 miles which will cost 1.5 to 2 times all that.. we arent independently wealthy and our budget shouldnt exceed 5-6 grand just to move our stuff and horses.

Sounds like you might want to chance the 400 mile journey with insurance that covers a tow should you need one. Don't forget to pack some extra motor oil, and transmission fluid . . . No trying to sound like a smart a**, but would it be cheaper that hiring someone to move it:

or drive it yourself and risk it?

P.S. I know nothing about the service provided by the link I posted. I just did a quick google search

Stary: Welcome to FTE!

But, I'm not really sure how you expect anyone to give you relevant advice on where to locate a heavy duty rental trailer without them knowing your location??

All I can tell you is that last weekend, we rented a 20' trailer with a winch to move an F250 2wd Crew, The trailer was rated for 10k LBS, and the rental cost was $120.00 CDN/DAY......

Get/rent a Tow dolly, disconnect the driveshaft and pull it. I have used them a good bit, they work well.

The truck in question weighs 6700-7000 lbs, that's where my problem lies.
The GVW is not the curb weight. GVW is measured with the truck full of fuel, loaded to capacity and 1964 spec of passenger weight. The actual curb or shipping weight is the weight of the truck empty. Unless your truck has had some Mr. T style (B.A.) weld on modifications it should weigh close to the chart below, well below the 6000lb max.

Heck a 64 Galaxie weighs almost as much and folks don't think twice about hauling those on regular car hauling trailers.
Galaxie 500 V-8 Series
N/A 62 4 Dr Town Sedan $2,776 3,672 lbs 196,805*
N/A 61 2 Dr Club Sedan $2,722 3,572 lbs 13,041*
N/A 64 4 Dr Town Victoria $2,848 3,667 lbs 49,242*
N/A 66 2 Dr Club Victoria $2,763 3,582 lbs 206,996*
N/A 65 2 Dr Convertible $3,045 3,757 lbs 37,311*
Galaxie 500 XL Series

Also you can remove the outer rear tires to fit it on a trailer.

1964 F350 - 1 Ton - 132 in. wheelbase
80 - Platform $2,369 4,140 lbs see note
81 - Chassis & Cab $2,176 3,480 lbs see note
83 - Flareside $2,311 3,980 lbs see note
83 - Styleside $2,322 3,970 lbs see note
86 - Stake $2,423 2,423 lbs see note stake spec may be a typo...4223lbs more likely

If you borrow a wooden floored trailer, make sure the wood is in good shape. I sold a 1955 1/2 ton Stepside and the front wheels broke through the guy's trailer after I drove it on for him. I would not have drove it across the yard much less where he was going, but he left with it.

Recently towed 65 long bed, measuring 128", purchased, what I believe was the longest trailer the rental offered and the truck just fit. I did not have my own trailer, and my other truck does not have a tow rating above 5K so I had to rent both the truck and trailer; in my case, transported vehicle from SoCal, to NoCal and since I was required to rent the enclosed truck might as well haul some parts acquired over the years, not that much, compared it to a 'be-be' in a box car. Anyhow, rental ran $300 for 5 days; spent 1 day taking public trans to location, a day to load parts, the truck was not running so getting it onto the trailer was some what of a problem. I spend a day returning to destination and off loading. I found the rental per day was more than, or about the same as the 5 day package. In my case, worth the extra bucks, no stress over concerns of traveling, loading, and off-loading truck and equipment before the date and time equipment was to be returned.
