Single stage paint or clearcoat?

I'm pretty sure I'm going to bit the bullet and put my truck under the knife. My friend that does bodywork is sure he can weld in any patch panels needed for the roof repair. I've seen very fine examples of his repair work and glass smooth paint jobs.

Have any of you done a clear coat style paint job with stock non metallic paint colors? I'm not sure if it would be too glossy and not look right. The truck has plenty of bright trim, but it's not at all a custom fab look.

Truck is nice and straight, just needs the roof repair and a little touch up with fresh paint

What an outstanding looking...dog!! Truck ain't bad either.

Ebay has quite a few single stage colors for sale. Take a look and see any of them would work.

The color is going to remain the same factory green. I don't know the name of it. And yes, my blue heeler is my best friend. She loves to ride along.

Clear coats make the paint shine look deeper, and the original paint shop definitely didn't have a clear coat. Just not sure if it would be too much.

It might be Frost Turquoise.

Or Lunar Green. What does the warranty tag say?

Very nice looking truck, by the way.

It's definitely not the frost turquoise like your stang, nice car. I don't know what a warranty tag is, but I bet the truck is Lunar Green.

The picture does make it look like a turquoise but that's just due to using a digital camera. Any time I put something blue next to it, the trucks looks more green.

Lunar green is much more likely than Frost Turquoise.

I just notice the CS emblems on your truck. That's a rare option in an F-100.

I'm doing single stage Wimbledon white right now. I love it. My painter wishes I did two stage though. He said it is easier?

Single stage acrylic urethane is more durable than two stage paint. JMO.

Depends....
For a DD, non-show, and working truck I'd go SS.

For a cruiser, occasional show n shine, then I'd consider a BC/CC.

Regardless, metallics should always be BC/CC.

Most shops prefer BC/CC due to ability to wet sand buff, of course if yours doesn't have metallic then you can buff your single stage easily too.

I am by no means a paint expert. But it seems to me that just one protective coat of clear would look the same as a couple of wax jobs. Kinda like you just paid that neighborhood kid $50.00 to do a blue corral wax job.
Ohhh, just had a flashback and I was too young to "participate" in the 60's.

That question is kind of like do you like Ford or Chevy, Its a matter of preference. Both will have the shine, but the clear will have more depth. The solid color single stage is a lot easier to touch up down the road. My truck is painted with Summit Racing single stage, and I have had painters ask if it was cleared and it's not.
Here is a good example of shine on a single stage metallic paint, It is summit Mocha Frost Pearl Metallic and Wimbledon White.

base coat clear coat gives a real nice shine , but has been known to have peeling issues if not applied correctly . For a non metallic I would stick with single stage .
