Front Driver-Side brake caliper

I'm a mechanical neophyte, but I am just really tired of being ripped off by the dealership. I have a stuck caliper that needs to be replaced and I'm trying to get the damn thing off. Can someone give me some pointers? I've tried prying, and using a C-clamp. Is it just a process of beating on it for a while? It moves around, but it just won't come off.

My thanks in advance.

In this video, the guy just pries it off with a flat-head. I wish it were that easy.

If I remember right, mine was a little tricky to get off too.

I used a strong screw driver like in the video and wiggled it in between the brake pad and the rotor until I could get the caliper off. If you can get a little room, move the screwdriver in a little further and it'll give you more surface area. It might be possible to damage your rotor though.

You can crack the bleed screw and it should make the piston easier to compress.

I don't remember needing to beat on mine to get them to come off.

I hope that helps!

Take off the cover of the brake reservoir then, using a C clamp, compress the pistons of the caliper while still on the truck (this may be difficult, depending on how stuck the caliper is). Then after removing the bolts, it should come off like in the video above.

This issue is common.

If caliper is stuck just remove the entire assembly, caliper and mounting bracket. Two bolts hold the bracket on to hub assembly.

Buy a new/rebuilt assembly that includes the bracket. Use the old stuck caliper and bracket for the core return and let someone else worry about how to seperate the caliper from the bracket.

I just had to fight with a caliper on my wife's pickup. I had to use a large clamp and a pipe wrench to squeeze the clamp and compress the caliper enough to get it off the rotor.

These calipers can be a PITA sometimes. If you got the caliper loosened enough to move on the rotor, grab the caliper with both of your hands and do a few quick, hard pulls towards you. Opening the reservoir cap will make things easier.

If you're going to be replacing the pads, just pry against the pads to compress the pistons.

Thank you all. The SOB came off after some brute-force. I replaced the caliper, caliper bracket, frozen pins, and pads. All is well and I'm a happy Ex owner again
