2011 F-250 6R140 issues, replace with 2012+ transmission?

Hello Just purchased a 2011 F-250 (6.2L 4x4) that has some 6R140 transmission issues. When cold (20-30F) it is slow to go into gear, and shudders during mild acceleration up to maybe 40mph. When it's warm it seems fairly good. Miles are fairly high, so I am debating whether to change out transmission for a unit with low miles rather than attempt to repair it and get into a can of worms. Used 2012-14 transmissions are far more available than 2011. I wondered if anyone knows what changed from 2011 to 2012 and later? I think mine probably has the BC3Z-7000-C (tag is missing). Build was 5/2011. Solenoid strategy tag says 180AFB3A. It looks like the 2012 and up use -7000-K revision. Can anyone tell me if my 2011 will work with a 2012 or newer revision? Can a dealer reprogram it to accommodate a 2012 transmission? Thank you very much!

Walter I feel your pain! Please let me know if you learn anything useful. I talked to a very reputable transmission shop (mostly heavy truck work) and they have little experience yet with the 6R140. I'd like to know whether changing the valve body has worked for people, because I'd be game to do that myself. Unfortunately I don't know if the rest of my transmission is junk yet.

I know there's a Firmware update for the 2011 super duty trannys! don't know if it will help but got mine done for free at the local dealer shortly after I bought it.

Firmware update

Thanks for the suggestion!

My truck was a fleet vehicle and probably maintained mostly or exclusively at Ford dealers, so I would think (?) any available upgrade would be in there. I may be going to a dealer to get cruise enabled, so I will ask if they will check firmware status. I don't expect a warm reception from a local dealer, showing up with a high mileage truck which they've never seen before and will probably never see again

Any idea what the transmission firmware changed? I saw a TSB for transmission solenoid issues, but I think that only applied to diesels and I suspect addressed mostly shift strategy...

Chuck unfortunately Mark K didn't work on the 6R140. He retired (per him) as the trans was going into prototype so he has little to no experience with the 6R. His vast knowledge base is with 5R110W and down.
I've often said it'd be nice if we could get a 6R140 engineer to post on FTE? If anyone knows of one or can pass this request on to someone entrenched in the trans design area at Dearborn please forward this request.
