Whoever the first guy is doesn't know his information very well. I'll say this straight up. I would highly recommend to get the kit from Riff Raff. That's all I'll say. It's up to you. Pulling the cooler isn't difficult, but it's not a fun job either. It's certainly not one I'd want to do twice in less than 3 years.

There's no point in throwing a $65 seal kit onto a used cooler into a $300 truck that hasn't seen pavement in over 10 years. If this truck was a daily driver I would. I haven't decided if this vehicle is worthy of my time for a resto.

And- after reading your comment I called another Ford dealership parts guy and asked why so many seals for one cooler and he told me the same thing. It's a conspiracy?

Conspiracy? Could be...time to don the tin foil hat, er, Riff Raff seals. But yeah, whatever works for you.

I don't mean to be rude to u guys disregarding your recommendations but I'm only trying to get this rig back on the road. Trying to keep the price down due to my financial adviser/ wife. Where I see potential, she sees a $ pit. I did take a video of the truck running and plan to have it up on YouTube soon.
This coming weekend is replacing the fuel return line that now leaks near the vacuum pump and attempting to get the brake lines swapped out. Not to mention the rotors and such. All driveline fluids should be changed also. Once the truck can stop and go down the road I plan on getting it back to my shop. I will definitely post more pics soon.

I think I get what your saying, your trying to make it run first and depending on the condition of the engine/tranny you will go from there. I'm doing the same thing to on a 69 F350 make run good first then go from there.

Some parts no matter ford chebby dodge, John Deere or whatever needs OEM parts to work right. If the cheap aftermarket parts were so good, then why would there be so many selling them. Every change points 4 times in a year? Aftermarket will do that . OEM will last year's. Been there done that many times.

I feel what your saying like with sensors only OEM, but seal, gaskets etc you can get away with aftermarket stuff well minus Injector O rings, those you cant cheap out.

I'd recommend head gaskets as well for the psd's. Unless your making some serious hp. Oh and valve cover gaskets

And oil cooler orings as well, but you guys do what you want. I get the money thing. But if you can't drop 65 bucks to get parts that work, you might be in for it with owning one of these trucks and should probably reconsider.

Update

drove the truck home to the garage and removed all brake lines. All rear brakes done. Lights fixed after I pulled out household hacked up extension cords from under the dash. BTW truck ran fine except for front end play in steering. Once the replacement driver side valve cover comes in to replace the one with the burned terminals, I'll drive it locally and shake the bugs out of it.

The Felpro gasket set I installed hasn't leaked at all. I had this set of o-rings inspected by one of our PSSR reps and he claimed that the Felpro seals have the same quality and durameter as Caterpillars which I wholeheartedly trust. Peace of mind.
