1997 F-250 HD. Technically a 350 with the Dana 60.

You can see the pitting where the oil filter seal sits.

Well, there's the proof. Please folks keep in mind this truck up to this point has only costed me $350. It also has less rust than my 06 SD which is parked in front of the 97 in the picture. All brake lines are wasted. Front driveshaft ujoint snapped some time ago and put a small hole in the transfer case . It's patched up with RTV. Transfer case shifter is broke too. Other than that it's ok.

Hopefully that was your only problem! Are you resealing the oil cooler while you've got it out?

Decided to sandblast the OEM cooler while it was out and then pressure test it like we do on the Cats.

The entire cooler is Swiss cheese. Oh well.

Man I have never seen pitting like that on the mating surface for the oil filter gasket, or for a matter of fact a cooler that is that rotted. Either way, if the motor is fairly solid you have a hell of a deal on a truck...part out a lone would be a couple grand... shoot the front end with springs would sell for 1000 here....

The pitting looks like it was parked near the ocean!

I like the paint scheme on the drivers side door. Not a bad starter project for the price. Good luck.

Looks like a nice project for $350!

That corrosion is pretty typical for snow plow trucks up here! The reason the body isn't rusted out is because everything already rotted out and has been replaced.

I have a friend who has a 95 parts truck out behind his shop that I plan to pull the cooler off of. I don't expect to find anything better than what I have here. My financial adviser/wife wants me to finish the rear fender wells and new fuel pump sender assembly on my 06 SD first before I start throwing parts on my 97.

I'll take some pics of the donor trucks cooler this weekend.

Cooler is salvageable. Pressure tests passed for both oil and coolant passages. Still may order a new cooler if truck is road worthy. I plan on giving $50 to my friend for a decent parts. Well worth it.

No cracks or major damage after sandblasting. John Deere yellow. Who cares- can't see it anyways.
