rear bumper fitment question - 94 bronco

I am about to beat this bumper back into shape and hurculiner it with the front winch bumper so they will match when I install them.

When I was under the bronco I realized the brackets that attach it to the frame are not very long at all. Maybe a few inches where it overlaps the frame and then the spring perch is right there.

Can I even install this bumper without modifying it first? Look how long the mounting brackets are. It came off a obs pick-up.

You should be able to, I have the "smoothie" bumper, and my brackets are even shorter, the parts on the right attaches the bumper to the frame, and the left parts are braces

The brackets on mine are super long. Yours look close to the length of the stock bumper on there currently which is much shorter.

Yeah, no. You're gonna have like a foot gap between the bumper and body. Cut the brackets and drill new holes or get some brackets from the junkyard

I was afraid you might say that. I don't see how it would slide over the spring perch so I guess I need to cut down the brackets on it. I was going to test fit before paint anyways to be sure its straight before I arc weld some of the breaks in the metal and hurculiner it.

It's going to suck cutting those with a grinder. Anyone in Dallas have a plasma cutter I can come over and use???

I thought you were asking if you needed longer brackets? I would bolt it on there first and see how it looks before you do any cutting.

Here is a pic to give you an ideal.

I put arrows where it bolts up. You can see where the back edge of the bumper is, bracket comes out only a few inches and attaches to the frame and pretty much almost already touches the spring hanger. I don't think I have a choice but to cut it or herculiner the bumper on it now.

On a truck would not be an issue since the spring hangers are not so close to the rear but it looks like on the broncos you need to have a short bracket set-up for it to not hit the spring hanger.
