Hi mileage 6.7s

Are there any problems with the 6.7s?
How do they do with over 100k on the trucks?
Are the 2011s as good as the 2016s?

Thanks

I have an '11 6.7 with 182K on the clock and the thing is an animal. I absolutely love the truck. just take care of it. pay attention to it. its a solid rig. but like any other mechanical device, it can break. if you pay attention to the warning signs, sounds, DTC codes, etc. and keep up with the maintenance, i assure you you will get many years and miles of reliable service from it.

and, IMHO, the '11-'14s are the ones to get if your looking at used. my cousin has had 4 of them, 2 were '15s, and he said you'll get 250K with no issue on the '11 - '14 models, '15 and up had issues with the turbos.

dont know what else to say other than mine is rock solid and running like new (i just drove a brand new one a week ago) and it has 182K on it.

Cheers.

Jay.

These are totally subjective questions. We have no context into knowing what any individual truck has been through or how it was treated and maintained by its previous owner.

Have there been problems with SOME 6.7s? Yes, a very very small number (probably equal to those from a Cummins engine)

How do they do with over 100k miles? Great, for those who have maintained them. I'm sure some will say they have had issues.

2011 vs 2016: the 2016 is the better engine just due to the advancements made as a gen 2 power plant. The 2011-2014 is a great engine also. Common sense would dictate that you try to find one that is a year after initial production.

Hope this helps.

I did extensive research before buying my 2016 6.7. At no point did I see anything about Gen II Turbo problems. If I did, I would probably still be driving my 11

Well, failure of the turbo ceramic bearings on the first generation were well noted, but I have not heard of any problems with the gen-2 turbo on the 15+ models. That info provided seems backwards.

They changed the turbo bearing on the Gen I motor late 2012 if I recall. So that seemed to fix the bearing issue on those motors up to the 2015.

The 11-14 had a similar problem and there was a TSB to replace the valves and valve seats when the problem occurred during regen.

Yes they did. But the 15's issue is a bit different. The valve and valve seat fix isn't helping.

Here's an early build 6.7 with 506k miles. If I remember correctly all that was replaced on the truck was the water pump.

Did the c/c models use the ceramic bearings too? I know it was a different turbo. Uncle has an F-550 dump, 2011, 6.7L. No engine issues except sensors.

That I don't know. We just know it as a different turbo for the C/C.
