Hi mileage 6.7s

? I have over 100 thousand on my truck, bought used. No maintaince paperwork. I am a stickler for maintance. I do worry about the turbo since I didn't buy it new. I was just wondering if anybody knows what I can do to keep it running like it does know. The only thing I would like to do is put sct tuner to help with milage. I am not looking to race or to "roll coal".

248,000K on my 2011. Original turbo, replaced a vacuum pump, fixed gasket on plastic oil pan, new EGR cooler (thanks Darrin), front tie rod, several radiators, cleaned the dpf filter once, one EGT sensor, and a new heater in the DEf tank. Besides the issue with the radiators, its been a solid truck.

Randy, its a well known issue, I think the Tech term is BRWDCD*. I read they they fail regularly, in fact so bad that it fails on the assembly line. Ford has no fix for it at all and has no intentions of fixing it. Its called: 'you got a problem? that's YOUR problem...or so I read.

It was throwing a code for plugged DPF and the shop has a machine they purchased that they clean it. It was explained to me that they remove the egt sensor just in front of the dpf and they stick a wand in there that coats the dpf in some kind of chemical. They let that soak in for a period of time and do a manual regen. He said they do it all the time on service vehicles that spend allot of time idling. I guess it is a thing of diminishing returns, eventually it will need to be replaced. Anybody else heard of this?

If you're asking whether or not you should buy one if it has high miles, do it. I have a 2011 6.7 XLT FX4 4 door short bed with 230k miles on it. Just as comparison, I drive my bosses 2014 that has 20k miles and felt no difference motor-wise. The thing is an absolute beast.
Mine has a 4" lift and big ol' tires on it, so its had a lot more wear and tear than stock and its still in crazy good condition.
As far as motor issues, I just had one resolved relating to the PCM unit. The harness ended up being dirty and gave me the symptoms of a bad PCM.
Other than that some front end parts and it'll be brand new!
Have fun with it man.

Impressive... What brand oil, viscosity and OCI do you perform on your truck.
I've read of chemical cleaning and baking the DPF at very high temps but I have no direct experience with either method and how much life do they add to the DPF.

Troy, I have been using Farm Rated brand oil from our local Mills Fleet Farm. I am not sure who actually makes it but it is a 5w-40 semi synthetic cj-4 oil. I get it for around$21 for two gallon jugs. Usually change when the truck tells me to. There have been several times that I was near 10K miles between changes. Still pulls like a dream!

I wish I would have researched the early 2011's before buying mine, or at least after I bought mine. I purchased mine used, 107k, and now have 125k on it. I've experienced, what appears to be a well known issue, with the a glow plug breaking and destroying the head. The thruster bearing in the turbo was also going bad as a result of them using the ceramic bearings. Talking to the shop who's now installing a new short block for me it sounds as if there are issues with these early motors losing bearings in the engine's lower end. Their opinion is the 2015's and newer are much better engines. My suggestion would be to talk to a local diesel shop, not a dealership, and get their opinion and see what they've seen with these motors.
