In the mail yesterday.

QUOTE=77&79F250;15955531]2wd 4wd? IMO that is a lot of money for any truck with that kind of mileage. Yes not a lot for a diesel motor, but that is high mileage on the rest of the "truck".

Trans with 244K on could be worn out, all the front end components, axles.... also depends on the maintenance/un keep that was completed on it.

SIDE NOTE: Did you get my door plate off and in the mail yet? I really need that.[/QUOTE]

Now this was interesting....95 E4OD - How does the EPC work to control Line Pressure? - Diesel Forum - TheDieselStop.com

Looks like I'm missing some things as far as the sensor to the axle is not there (original Dana 60 rear end). Dana 70 in the Diesel parts truck had the sensor in the rear differential. I'm guessing this is one of the issues since the computer and epc

Quote.....The EPC is controlled by the PCM. The PCM takes information from the engine, transmission, and axle sensors and calculates what pressure is required.

I'm thinking I'm never going to get this sucker shifting right ......yes RC, the diesel c6 will be here this week as long as the weather is not bad....

Jeff
I have not tried to keep up with all your issues. Do you have the correct ecm and complete wiring harness for the 7.3/e4od trans combo and all the assorted sensors needed? Some of the gas engine e4od's also had a trans computer the fed some wiring off the GEM module.
What year is the engine and trans and I will call my friend with what info you have and see if he would be interested in taking on your project.
He has a shop a few miles north of Bolivar.

My motor is a 89, trans is a 90, the 89 motor originally had a c6 2wd behind it...

A modern transmission controller often needs to know engine rpm, throttle position, transmission line pressure, gear selector position, engine temperature, transmission temperature, and vehicle speed in order to properly regulate shifting. Since the trans guy said that you were missing sensor inputs, you need to figure out which ones and go from there.

It's a little disturbing that transmission "experts" couldn't tell you the specific inputs you're missing. That should have been noticed right off the bat. Fix those and you'll be shifting smoothly.

By the way - in your generation of parts, the sensor in the rear axle was for the rear anti-lock brakes. Speed is determined by a sending unit at the end of the speedometer cable.

Do you have the transmission control module installed and hooked up? It has to read the various sensor inputs. As Dave said the electronic trans. will need a lot of information to work correctly and has to have the sensor inputs to get that correct info. What sensors do you have hooked up?

RC
Does the 7.3 have a common to ford engine family trans bolt pattern or it totally different. The 7.3 in my dump truck has a Allison three speed. I think they also made a overdrive trans. Any reason a Allison couldn't be put in his pickup? I don't know if the one in my dump is controlled by any sort of computer or not It's a 92 international 4600. It might be too large to go in that truck

larry from what i was told the bell housing is not your standard ford style.. i am just wondering if the tps (throttle position sensor) could be what is wrong.. i think the one on his engine is for the c-6 trans the engine came with .. i am thinking that it needs the tps for a e4od trans.. getting that set right looks like it takes more tools than i have anyway..

I'd bet the TPS is the same. What does he have hooked up for the vehicle speed sensor?

Looking on Oreillys website the TPS for the diesel is not the same as V8 gas engines. It's not asking which trans.
