89 F250 Dizzy Issue

Hello folks, was looking to advance the timing but I can't get the damn hold down to break loose for me.

I've soaked it in PB, not sure what else to try, afraid to hit it with an impact wrench

The hold down, the bolt holding the clamp, shouldn't usually be the problem.

It's the distributor itself that seizes in it's bore.

But for the hold-down make sure you have a tight fitting wrench on the bolt, it may be metric.

Add a short cheater length of pipe to your box wrench if necessary, but do not round it off.

For the distributor itself, may have to use a 15in. adjustable wrench on the "square" cast into the distributor housing, just below the head, and add a cheater to that, after soaking base in PB, to break the distributor loose to adjust timing.

Go GENTLY back and forth , to get the O-ring in the bore to move.

I'll give it a go again, but it's definitely the clamp hold down.

You might try a toothbrush dipped in pwr. steering or trans oil, and thoroughly clean out the area's around the hold down bolt/clamp and distributor base, to make sure no material/debris diverts your PB oil from it's route to where it needs to be.

Socket???

I've had a 1/2" distributor wrench since the '70's.
KD, 2575, came off one of those spin racks at the LAP for under $10(back then)
It's never given me a problem.

yeah mine didn't look like that, I got this one
UltraSteel AT64510B - Distributor Clamp Wrench | O'Reilly Auto Parts

the smaller of the two is what fit onto the clamp, so with I found a socket to fit on the small end, and used an extension bar to try and turn the nut on the clamp, and ended up rounding the edges off the distributor wrench

I've never seen anything like that, but *think* you're supposed to put the two halves together.

Definitely looks like the finest Chinese crapsmanship.
