Upgrade engine, yea or nay

I've got a 64 F100 that is all bone stock with 90K miles on it, other than the seat upholstery , sunvisors and tires it's original. I'm about to embark on some under the skin upgrades like moving the fuel tank and upgrading the brakes to disc etc.

I recently got a Free 68 240 inline and immediantly started thinking about an engine swap, once I've converted it to a 300 with a mild cam, etc.
The ability to use a modern transmission and have some good power seems appealing but I almost hate to mod such an original truck.

This is not my DD but a toy that I've only put 700 miles on in the last year and is only driven on nice days.

My original plans for the 64 was a fresh rebuild of the 223 and put an offy 2x 1barrel intake and headers or a clifford system but bone stock other than the brake upgrade and fuel tank relocation.

I have trouble turning down free engines, good ones anyway.

What says the hive..........Ready..........Set.........GO!

Previous owner bought it new, he passed several years ago, been sitting since 99 in a barn. It became mine Jan 15.

Anything newer than 64 is going to be a side mount, your's is a front mount. tranny & bell will have to be swapped as well.

Faced with that, I would think about something much newer for that truck, maybe an Ecco Boost. Really have something to brag about. You could have a daily driver then.

Something to think about.

Yes, I know all the mounting differences and have researched cross members and all that stuff. This is not my first frame off or custom repower project.

The 223 bellhousing issue is one reason why I've considered a repower since the SBF bell housing would give me more transmission choices. Unfortunately I sold a good AOD I had left over from another project which would've been a good choice if I wanted an auto trans with OD.
A TKO 500 is tempting but pricey.

I don't want anything with computer, period, if I get an Ecoboost it'll be in a new F150.

The 68 240 has the same loadamatic ignition system as the 223. For any performance that will need to be changed.
With that said, I would keep it all stock including the tank and drums.

If you want to play with that 223 with multiple carbs it's best to go with a later distributor 1970 and up standard ignition 240/300 dizzy for points and vacuum advance will fit but you have to use the 223 dizzy gear. You can also do the same and convert to Dura Spark.

The load-o-matic dissy sucks, if I keep the 223 I'll do a 240/300 dist conversion with pertronix upgrade and a carb upgrade that doesn't require a power valve.

I replaced the entire brake system last year after purchase, it'd been sitting for awhile, new master cyl, lines, hoses, wheel cyl, shoes and hardware. At the min I should have converted to a dual circuit sys.

Other than dist and carb I'd keep it as stock as possible myself. Great looking truck! Nice color.

If willing please post a photo of your Warranty Plate for this truck. I'd like to get the details for it.

Thanks,
Chad
