help! should I buy this?
This is my first time buying a power stroke or any kind of diesel truck for that matter. I'm interested in this one here, what do you guys think?i need help from the pro's. i dont want to buy a truck and get stuck with throwing thousands of dollars into it to fix it. he says there are no engine codes on the dashboard, here is the link to the truck i want. i talked him down to 22.5k for it.
05 f250 powerstroke
he sent me some interrier pics and it looked very well taken care of, i will load more pics of it a little later

1. know that some people will clear the codes, then say there are no codes.
2. know that there are a bunch of aftermarket parts and software on the truck, which can make fixing it down the road more difficult [finding out who made what parts, figuring out why the engine isn't running right].
If you buy it, also get all the receipts [so you can figure out what parts are where] and get the 'tuner' [the unit to install and remove the tuning setup] and how to use it.

Ask him his definition of "bulletproof". Then maybe take your information to the folks on the 6.0 forum and see what information they can help you with.

I see that the status shows a lien on the truck. Might want to be clear on how that's going to be resolved also.

Ask him what he's smoking. He's way high. People don't seem to understand just because you put a bunch of crap on a vehicle it doesn't raise the value by that amount. Doesn't work for a house, car, bicycle or whatever. The bank doesn't care either. It's worth just as much as any other 05 in their eyes.

Dude can ask whatever he wants. But it's only worth what someone is willing to pay. He might be sitting on that truck for a while. Or he may find someone who didn't do the homework and get his price (or close to it). Luck of the draw sometimes.
vwford - You might want to see exactly what the truck came with from the factory and try to get a value from NADA, KBB, Edmunds, etc. Then see if any similar trucks are selling locally. Combine all of your info to come up with what you think is a fair offer. If he doesn't go for it, keep shopping.
I bought a 2003 Cadillac this fall. I went to see it and drove it. I found out the asking price. I told him my top offer and he said no way. No problem. We shook hands and parted without hard feelings. The next day he texted to ask if I was still interested. I said yes, but my offer stood and would not be raised. I've been driving that Caddy since late September. So make an educated offer and leave it at that.

I myself would be afraid of buying a tuned diesel from someone I don't know. A quick search on you tube will give you an idea of how some of these trucks are driven. Not saying that's how this truck was treated but you never know. I think the price is high but it seems like that is what these older lifted diesels are bringing. A buddy of mine bought an '04 HD edition F250 with 100k on it plus a mild lift and new tires/wheels for $20k. He found out afterwards the truck had a new engine in it a couple of years ago.
Another thing to consider, make sure you have a mechanic lined up that will work on a diesel that has had the emission components deleted. Technically it's illegal for someone to even have the truck in their shop and they are supposed to rat on the owner for taking the stuff off, this is what I was told by the shop foreman at a place I use. Most shops ignore the rules and won't say anything but it's best to ask first.
