Pat - Yes, it is a lot of work, but is a labor of love. I got tired of answering the same questions over and over on here and was looking for a way to pull documentation together so people could answer their own questions. Unfortunately IB doesn't provide that on FTE, so I tried a web site. It appears to be the way to go, so I'll spend time doing that so's people can answer their own questions down the road.

Chris - Thanks! And, please tell your brother thanks. That's just what I need.

I have had a few '81's, I don't recall any with clear turn signal lenses, and all but my current one had slider locks. Unfortunately I don't have the data plates from any of them except my current one. I wonder if the change over to pin locks happened at the same time as the switch to solid frames and ball joints?

Here are the 2 tucked away in my garage. Both bought off Craig’sList and listed there as posted here. Onthe right is the 80 flare side, left the 81 style side. Data tags both say 1981 in lower right corner.

Data tag from the flare side

Data tag from the style side

You can see the front turn sig colors as for the door locks the 81 as can be seen had no doors so don’t know what it had the 80 had from what I am told sliders as there are square holes in the door panels but nothing is there to lock them from the inside.

Brad - Thanks. Yours may be one of the last 81's built. And, in Canada no less. Interesting data point.

Dave - Those are both 1981's. That's what Ford said they are, and the production dates confirm that. Thanks.

Brad - If I understand correctly, the one built in January of '81 had amber lenses and slider locks, and the one built in August of '81 had amber lenses and pin locks. Right?

I can see that the poll isn't going to be the end-all and be-all since several of us have two of these trucks. The poll lets you vote twice - but that means for two different arrangements. In your case that would work since you have two different config's. But, not in my case. So, I'll resort to a spreadsheet soon. But, please go ahead and vote twice if you want.

Thanks again.

Here's where we are to this point. (I realize I have input from mastech08, but until I get the build date and the plant I can't use the data points.)

The first view is sorted by Plant and then by Build Date, and the second view is sorted by Build Date and then by Plant. And, from this I see ..... confusion. We need more data points!

Smile about turn signal lenses and door locks

If you have a 1981 truck and know what style locks it originally came with please vote in the poll. Ditto on the turn signal lenses - if you know what color your 1981 truck came with please vote. And then post a picture of your certification label showing when and where the truck was made. (I can figure out the "where" from the Cert label.)

Thanks in advance! I'm trying to document these trucks as best I can, and your help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Jesse. Are you pretty sure that your turn signals are original? 09/80 is the earliest I've seen amber, but that's what this poll is all about - to find out.

Gary, I'll try to get a picture of my 1981 truck's data plate. Don't know if I can.

The truck was built either in 10/80 or 11/80 as my Dad bought it new in 12/80.

The truck has the amber lenses and the slide locks.

Chris - Thanks.

OH - That would really help so I can figure out where it was made. That may be a/the key.
