im not sure if its the same as mine but i have an 84 f-250HD and it came stock with a dana 50 IFS in the front and a dana 70 rear with leaf springs all the way around. Most none HD f-250's from 1980 to 1986 used the dana 40 IFS
EDIT:
your right it was a dana 44 not 40 sorry
EDIT Again:
if you wont to get rid of that IFS you would be better off going with a 1992 to 1996 dana 60 solid axle the convertion is easy and most axle shops will have the kit

I have an 84 F-250 light, that I converted to a straight front axle. Stock was a D44HD IFS setup, and a D61 rear. Currently, the D61 is still spinning in the back, but I have a 3,500lb D44 from a 77 F-250 highboy. This thing is really beafy, almost as much as a D60 front, just about on par with a D50 front. I used Explorer Pro Comp rear springs from Summit, which gave me about 6" of lift. I then took two leafs out of the old rear pack, and added them to the front packs. I made my own front spring perches from 3" square tubing, notched to fit over the stock mounts. This setup makes the truck sit level, and doesn't make for a bad ride either.
