Question which trannys came with '95-'97 5.8L?

I'll be looking to build up a '52 F3 come springtime, and it has been suggested I look for a roller 351W motor out of a '95-'97 F350.

Three questions for this group:
1) was that motor offered on either the 150 or 250, too?
2) which transmissions (both auto and manual) were available behind the 5.8?
3) was the dually only available in the F350?

Thank you.

1. 351W cam in Broncos, f150, F250 and F350

2. 4R70w, E4OD were the two over drive autos(but not sure if the 4R70w was available behind the 351) and the ZF5 was the manual trans with OD

3. yes duals were only optional on F350s

You will find the same 5.8 roller motor in any E and F series truck from 1994 to the end of production in '97.

...so more likely on the F250 do you think? wasn't the F350 more commonly with 460? seems like most F150s on craigslist are I-6.

(just hoping to narrow down the search, either on CL or boneyard).

I dont know the build numbers but 351s only came behind autos from 92+ in F150s and broncos

the 351s came behind E4OD and the ZF5 in the f250 and F350

And remember... (you probably already know)

The trans that come with a 5.8 will have the small-block pattern, not the big-block/diesel pattern if that's what you have or are looking for.

Given that he's looking for a 351W for a build (and wondering what trans might be behind it), I'm thinking a small block bellhousing is a plus for him.

in other words, an F150 from this range (95-97) will only have the E4OD, whereas the 250/350 could have the E4OD or ZF5 manual? (so no 4R70W)?

thanks.

yep, that i knew...
fwiw, i'll be likely looking for a donor truck to take both the motor and tranny (and harnesses, ECM, etc.)

did just find this helpful resource:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_o..._transmissions

...from this, it looks like i'm just as likely to find a C6 in this era?

95-97 5.8 ?

Bronco ,F150 E4OD only

F250,F350
E4OD or ZF 5spd.

only 5.8 dually would have been an F350

personally I never seen a C6 past a 91 model year, might have still been an option but maybe only on a large fleet order.

good luck with your powertrain donor truck search

The C6 was available through the 1996 model year with the 5.8L in the F-250 & F-350.

sure but how many were built, what application were they used in?

Panel vans only? fleet orders only? might be hard to find one for the OP's donor driveline vehicle use.

I only have experience with Eseries and Fseries, never saw any in 92up vans or 92-97 trucks. worked at the Ford dealers from 1989-2000.

They were available in the F and E 250 and 350.

I worked in Automatic Transmission Engineering from 1988-2007. The plant was building them, I don't know who was purchasing them.
