Explorer P2104 & P2112 Help

I have a 2004 Explorer with the 4.0L SOHC V6.

I was having some rough idle and a P0401 code for Insufficient EGR Flow. In the process of investigating the EGR valve, I had to remove the throttle position sensor to remove the EGR. After re-installing everything, I had a worse rough idle and I again removed the EGR valve; however this time instead of removing the throttle position sensor, I removed the entire throttle body assembly.

After re-installing everything again, I now have very rough idle and no pedal response. I have the following two codes:

P2104- Throttle Actuator Control System Forced Closed
P2112- Throttle Actuator Control System Stuck Closed

I did not unplug any harness, and all connections are secure. I did not remove the battery cables while working on it, but I did remove the negative cable for about 45 minutes after getting the P2104/P2112 codes hoping a reset my fix things.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Did you find a bunch of carbon that had to be cleaned out of the EGR passage? It's possible that something got stuck in the throttle. have you tried to manually operate the throttle plate to see if it's sticking?

Checking for a stuck throttle body is the first logical step. Make sure the key is Off when doing this. Here are the recommendations from the factory service manual.

DV2 CHECK FOR OBSTRUCTION OF THE THROTTLE BODY

WARNING: SUBSTANTIAL OPENING AND CLOSING TORQUE IS APPLIED BY THIS SYSTEM. TO PREVENT INJURY, BE CAREFUL TO KEEP FINGERS AWAY FROM THROTTLE MECHANISM WHEN ACTUATED.

  • Note: Moving the throttle plate manually may cause DTC P2106 to set during the self-test.
  • Key in OFF position.
  • Remove the inlet tube from the throttle body.
  • Visually inspect for throttle plate obstruction.
  • Slowly, push the throttle plate to wide open and release.
Does the throttle plate move freely to wide open and back?

There was not much carbon in the EGR passage, and the throttle plate opens smoothly and closes back freely.
