302??

Hey y'all! New to the site! Gotta question! Bought a 1995 F150 with about 163,xxx miles. Plan on slowly restoring. Question is, the motor is supposedly a 5.0, I checked the spark plugs but they didn't look like plugs from a 302 so I did some research. The plugs in the block fit either a 4.6 or 5.4 motor! Now my intake is a 5.0. Can the intake from a 5.0 bolt up to a 4.6 or 5.4 block?? I'm a little confused!

No. It cannot. Completely different engine families. Modular engines are overhead cam vs cam in the block and much wider

Thanks and that's what I thought to!! So what could be the explanation?? The spark plug that is supposed to go in my block has shorter threads than the plugs in my block. The plugs in my block are motor craft sp-447, the plugs that supposedly go in it are motor craft sp-450.

Someone put in the wrong plugs. Not sure what the sp numbers are. My '89 takes Motorcraft ASF-42C. The spark plug number is on the emissions label on the air box, if it is still there.

Simple explanation: Someone effed up and put the wrong plugs in.

Minor clarification: the plugs do not go in the block...they go in the cylinder head.

Thanks for that clarification! The simple explanation isn't so simple though, the spark plugs that are supposed to go in it will not fit.

My4fordtrucks, the plugs that are supposed to go in but will not fit are the motor craft 42C that you are talking about but they don't fit!

Please define "don't fit". Will they thread in?

Perhaps someone installed Gt40P heads?

They will not thread in, and I don't know anything about those gt40 heads, is that a possibility with the 5.0 motor?? I will research that, thanks!

GT40 and GT40P heads (not related to the legendary race car) are different versions of a similar model, they were found on several Ford vehicles from 96 on (I think even earlier on Mustangs), you would be very lucky to have any of those, but GT40 are preferred because they're easier to work on and replace the sparkplugs even though the GT40P is a revised model with a little more performance (negligible for sure).

Thanks a lot y'all!!! I am gonna get under my truck and check it out further this weekend but after researching, I'm thinking it's the gt40 heads, judging by the spark plug positions. I will let y'all know what I find out this weekend! Thanks so much, y'all have really helped!!

Take some pictures and post them up, GT40 and the P heads have identifying marks and you often find the letters GT or GTP cast into them somewhere near the outside corners.

Seller should have told you of a change like that, that's more like a selling point upgrade really.
