How To Order A 2016 F150
I am planning to buy a 2016 F150. I have been through the Ford build a truck site and looked through all the inventory in the Dallas area. I don't find a close match to what I want.
I have ordered a car from GM before, but never from Ford. Before I start talking with a dealership about an order, are there any lessons learned you could pass along.
thanks

They should sell it to you like it's in stock, no premium for an order. Negotiate in terms of an offset from invoice. I generally ask my customers for, and get, $100 over invoice, but there is no reason you can't be under invoice either, Ford gives us money to move the units. I just think $100 over is fair (its just under X plan)
You lock in today's rebates and any coupons you might have, but if the deals are better when the truck comes in you can opt for them. So consider the deal as Offset from invoice minus rebates.
Check on your state laws for doc fees and interest rate mark up. Some states everyone must pay the same, others have no cap and they can charge you though the roof (often complementing it with a crazy low truck price). In addition to negotiating an offset from invoice, make sure any payment options they off add up on a calculator. There are plenty of online auto payment calculators. If it's off, ask for justification (there are likely state fees and stuff, but if its way out of wack they plan to pad the deal somewhere, this is also common with "low price" dealerships)
Buy local, make a friend. We all buy the trucks for the same amount. The really big dealerships might get a bigger bonus, but its not more than a few hundred bucks so make a friend. It's okay for them to make a few bucks off ya if they give you good service and you have a sales guy who will want to take care of your account. I have a customer who brings me whiskey, he always gets my best deals.
Ask for a truck guy. There may be some good options you hadn't fully considered, or you might have questions. If the new guy says hes a truck guy, put him to the test. If he fails, you don't have to go somewhere else, just ask for a more experienced guy (or go to the commercial department.)
Have fun and get the truck you want for a good deal! It really should be a fun process for everyone. Don't get offended that we are trying to make money. Have fun, but commit to the dealership and the sale and you'll likely be treated pretty well, both personally and financially.

It helps a lot to go over the Ford Build n Price and print out what you've built.
Then you'll go over with the salesman the same process and they will print out an official pre-order sheet. Go over that make sure it matches your options.
And then you wait. Mine is scheduled for Jan 4th,

There is a site called cotus, I used it about a year ago but it is a bit glitchy and sometimes its behind but the delivery date is correct

ETIS works once the truck is built, but doesn't show in-transit tracking.
I hit up Crystal pnce a week for updates, she came through quickly and that was good enough for me.
