I don't think many of the taxis end up in the pick a part yards. There are other yards that might have them but you have to pay them for removal. Make friends with someone who works there that can give you a heads up. You might get lucky.

The only physical difference between an '03-up P71 (police/taxi) CV front suspension and an '03-up civilian CV front suspension is the coil spring rating. P71 is supposedly around 700# and civilian around 400#.

Also, it's far more likely a P71 front suspension will have lived a much harder life than a suspension from under a civilian model. So, I guess what I'm getting at is you don't have to limit yourself to a CV front suspension from a P71 model.

'03 civilian CV front suspension and a '90 Thunderbird Super Coupe IRS.

Update!
Had to wait til after the new year to get back to my project! Got the 460 pulled out and sitting on the stand. Not sure what mods I'll do on the engine yet. Previous owner said it has approximately 40000 miles on it, seemed to be running fine when I pulled it out. Probably just a good cam and timing set, new intake and carb, a rear sump oil pan, I'm sure the list will grow.

Update

Used the engine hoist to pull off the bed, those darn bolts didn't want to vacate those holes. Inspection of the rear frame shows just surface rust. The carrier bearing for the drive shafts is shot. Do the short beds still use a carrier bearing?

Started laying out the cut lines on the frame, going to wait a week before cutting it up and will double check all my measurements before taking a blade or cutting wheel to it.

No carrier bearing on SB trucks. Trash it.

If you want to be a little different and save some time and energy you could just shorten the front portion of the bed and not mess with the back. Frame too. I think it would look cool and be different.

Subscribed! The pics are awesome. I'm about to begin my first resto/mod so this is going to come in handy. I'm going CV and Explorer rear so this is perfect. Thank you!

Past the point of no return. The Sawzall made short work on the frame.

All welded up, including some fish plate on the inside of the frame.

After a couple of days worth of welding and grinding, had to do a little cleaning. The front suspension gets cut out next.

This assembly is ready to take its place.
