EGT failure following 14E03 reflash
I had the 14E03 recall completed in February, and haven't really seen anyone report on an EGT failure since. I had one fail today, and the circumstances caught me as odd, so I figured I'd post. I use an Edge Insight CTS to monitor regens and EGTs. Today, I noticed the Edge report a regen beginning with a low soot level (1.34 gpl), and never saw the alert on the message center. Then I noticed that only EGT4 was getting high, VERY HIGH, like 1400 degrees. No rise on any other sensor, and no drop in fuel economy. I kept driving and started to see that EGT4 was flashing between 1400 and 400 degrees. I got no CEL, or any other indication of a problem from the truck, so I called my dealer and told them to replace the post DPF sensor. Once replaced all indications read normal, and the Edge was not reporting a regen. The thing that I thought was the most strange was that while the regen light was lit on the Edge the soot level was decreasing, at one point getting down to 0.71. I guess I always assumed the soot level was a measured value, not just calculated. Anyway, new sensor, soot is building and all seems well. I'm happy the truck didn't shut down, but a CEL would have been nice.
