1974 Lincoln 460 and C6 engine swap Q&A

I have a 1974 Lincoln 460 and C6. Bought for and old project but now I'm thinking of putting it in my 1969 f100. The motor and transmission has to be rebuilt. And my question is, how can I do a low budget build to get more power out of it.
Thanks for any information.

Bro if ya got to go than far I would be looking at something with an overdrive. You should be able to get a 90s AOD to fit the 460.

If you stay with the C6 you need to swap in a truck shift arm, as one for a car drops down kinda like this / and the truck like this --.

Here's a list of 460 build combinations and the amount of power they made:

What's a good gear ratio for the rear end?

My '67 has a mildly built 460, C6 with a shift kit, and a 4.10 TracLoc in a 9". Using 29" tall tires it's nearly impossible to accelerate hard, the tires spin effortlessly. Ratio depends on what you want to do with the truck, mine is my hot rod, not a daily driver. If you drive it every day I wouldn't go over 3.70.

Okay thanks turbo dog and jo wilker.
What I'm looking to do this truck is, drive it daily. With the ability to hit the gas and be able to spank most of these import rice burner jobs running around town.

I've had a 460 and C6, which I got out of a '75 Lincoln, in my F250 since 1980. I have a 3.73 rearend with 33" tires. An OD transmission would be nice but $. I had a 12' cabover camper and pulled a 5000 lb boat in those days and it did great. The only thing it wouldn't pass is a gas station.

You can have a c6 built to downshift without a kickdown cable. Vacuum I do believe.
