New owner 1980 F100 Flare Side

Joined the ranks ofbullnose ownership today. Bought an 1980 F100 Flare Side - 300 I6, 4sp (grannylow not OD), P/S (low on fluid), non-power disc (1 empty sump!).
Has a little rust onthe floors where they meet up to the rockers, rocker are good and so are thecab mounts but needs cab corners. Bed wood has been replaced with boards justbolted down but all the metal looked good.

Needs front end work, twin beam bushing? as it was all over the road on the little test I took.Lights and gauges don’t work and did not look into why when looking truck over.Ebrake not hooked up either.
It's not pretty (yet)and will go thru it better when I get it home. I was going to try and drive itbut the front end is that BAD so need to get my trailer & other truck(Dodge Durango) hitched up to fetch it.

Plan is to get it onthe road first to use as a spare truck that I hope is a little better than theDurango on gas and to haul garbage to the dump as it smells at times and notcool to have it inside wifes car or my truck.
I am also looking atanother F100 (81) that the body is trashed but everything else is good so hopeto use the good parts from it on this 80.
Pictures fromCraigslist listing.

Reamer that came out nice.
On mine anything 1 color would look 100 times better than it looks now.

1 side of me is saying full on restore but the other just wants a nice looking driver.
Besides I have a major project going on with a 70 AMC Javelin I have to finish.

I am still throwing around the original style "panel" down the sides (in a metallic grey)
Just a lot of masking, and now the clear has been applied, so .........

I am tossing around silver or white and if I do it will be laid on before the main color of red.

Got to get the truck home and running first.

Because I can't sleep I been thinking of how far I want to go with this truck?
I know I want a driver a nice looking driver and if I have to fix/replace something i would like to restore it to factory stock.
What I mean is what color did the factory make say coil springs, leaf springs, hangers, twin beams, etc.

I looked for a sticky on this but did not find any thing or is it not in this section?
Or we just do it the way we want to and that would be ok too. Just like to know how it started off from the factory.
Thanks

I would use this guy as my bible. With only 11,000 miles when the pics were taken, it is as close to new as you are likely to see: 1983 Bronco Survivor - Gary's Garagemahal

Welcome to the boards! Nice find, it even has the "correct" rear bumper which isn't always intact. You'll find a lot of great info here

I will check out that link when on a pc, smartphone don't cut it.

I was shocked on the rear bumper being there and not bent to heck!
Even the front is in good shape.
Truck looks worst than it is I think.

Should have the flare side & the style side parts truck home this weekend. Then the fun starts to look them both over really good and come up with a game plan.

Well, I guess that Bronco isn't quite correct. Go see the pic on Page 3 of the 1981 Pickup brochure. Looks like the frame should be white, the springs red, the tie rods green, the control arms yellow, and the crossmembers gray. Sorry for the misdirection before.
