What years did Ford make highboys? I know they had them in 1973, but what other years?

 

I thought I just read something in an old 4-wheeler magazine that said the Highboy (F250 $WD) was throught '72 and then in '72&1/2 they lowered it a couple inches. They were definitely around in '59.

 

I've heard 67-77.5 are hiboys.

 

All the pre '77 1/2 Ford F250 4x4's had a tall suspension, so they were nicknamed 'highboys' - the way I understand it, it's not a Ford term, just a nickname.

I believe the term originated with a 30's ford coupe. I don't know why though.

The highboy truck is a 67-77.5 F250 4x4 though.

 

You folks are probably right about '77.5 being the last Highboys, but I am pretty certain that Fords F250 "highboy" was from the get go. Fords first production 4WD was the '59 and it was highboy. A '32 Ford roadster (or early 30's) without fenders was known as a "highboy," perhaps because those old cars sat high and without fenders looked even higher. Anyway, the highboy is a great looking truck!
