First ecoboost oil and filter
Completed first oil and filter, oil filter is much easier to get to and is by sight and not Braille. Rest of oil change is identical to the old trucks. I put the truck on ramps at all four corners so it was level, loosened oil filter so it would drain, there is a two way funnel that the filter will drain onto, if left to drain slowly,it will drain out of the back side of funnel through a square hole in the skid plate, this is much improved over the old truck. Also the original filter is a little taller by about a half inch.3.5 ecoboost

Yes, requires 8 mm socket, I applied anti seize compound to the threads, the old ones were quick turn fasteners, non fx 4 will not have the skid plate, but should still have the two way funnel, there is enough room to maneuver the filter with fresh oil and not spill any oil when installing the new filter.

Just did my first oil change this afternoon, and I was impressed with how easy it was compared to the last one. I loaned my oil filter pliers to a friend, so I was prepared for a hassle with the oil filter, but it wasn't a problem at all. Was able to get channel locks around the filter and remove it in less than two minutes. Lots of room to maneuver around there.
Your skid plate setup looks identical to the one on my '13, which had the off-road package. Mine has a second fabric cover in its place, but it doesn't change the oil change procedure at all. The oil change and tire rotation took me just over an hour to get done, not a bad deal.
This is in stark contrast to the first oil change on my '07 which took HOURS. Most of that was spent wrestling with the factory oil filter that didn't want to move!

My 06 fx4 was not too much fun, but was easier than the 2012 with the ecoboost engine, the 2015 is much easier than either of my two older trucks, the 2012 would always spill oil out onto the opposite side of where I placed drain pan without fail. This was refreshing not to spill oil all over the drive!

I never cared for Ford's oil catch system under the filters on the 09-14 so I probably wouldn't like the newer ones. When I was working at a lube shop I had to throw a few rags and use a lot of carb cleaner on that pan so none would leak out on to the ground other wise the less than intellegent person would think the filter wasn't on right and its leaking oil. In one way its a lot nicer to drain oil into a pan but on the other its an inconvince for those who work in a shop.
