Lower radiator hose/Tee going to what?

1994 E150, club wagon, 5.8

Lower radiator hose connects to a tee / branch. Is that tee for the oil cooler?

Thanks.

I found out that its an oil cooler adapter. I ordered one and its looks kinda

odd. The hose and plastic is 1 1/2" inside diameter but on the inside there is

a ring that is part of the mold that constricts the flow down to what looks

like could be 1" I am going to be sure to compare it to the old one I take off.

Thanks.

I took off the old oil cooler adapter today and it is has a bit larger Inside

diameter.

The new one has what looks like only a one inch passage (Not all the way

through, just between the two small hoses on the inside) This has me

wondering if thats going to be a problem.

It is an original gates brand.

Has anyone had this same experience or know if this is a problem

Thanks.

After looking at my old one and some online, I am wondering if this is a

counterfeit. I bought it off amazon, (wich I have never done before and will not do again) from

a place advertised as gates. It looks very different than the original but it

installed the same. It came with a gates sticker like all gates products I

have bought in the past.

Thanks.

not that it will do any good, but what is the part number?

i ordered some Motorcraft parts online and was concerned about them being counterfit. I called ford and they sent me to a division that handles that.. She had me to take pics and send them to her.. She said they all looked real to her.. The coil wire still slips off the coil. I had to tie wrap it on.. Also no where on the DSII module did it say Motorcraft!

The part is a 22401

This is the site I bought if from, The amazon web store is called Gates

Amazon.com: Gates 22401 Lower Radiator Hose: Automotive Amazon.com: Gates 22401 Lower Radiator Hose: Automotive

It was not in a box with a label so there are no numbers to check, it was

loose in the shipping box like a bulk item and had a gates sticker on it.

I saw that gates counterfeit check page when I was looking into it. I have

emailed gates and explained the situation.

Could be a genuine or not but either way that constricted section of the

hose is very troubling, especially since it was a extremely difficult job to

install.

Thanks.

I am wondering if the constriction is to control the coolant flow through the cooler? I have seen similar reduced diameter hoses used on heater cores to reduce the pressure/flow through the heater core to avoid early heater core failures. GM had this problem on their pickups many years ago, I learned of it from a friend who was having the problem. He told me the last time the dealer replaced the core that they installed some kind of reducer in the heater hose.

No idea if this applies, it just sounded familiar.

Yes, I was thinking it could also be something along those lines after looking through a jegs catalong earlier today and saw these water restrictor rings that are installed in place of a thermostat.

Thanks.

I'll see if I can find out more about it. I learned about the thermostat things when I removed a thermostat trying to get it to run cooler in the Texas summer heat. Turns out that without the thermostat or some restrictor, the water runs through the radiator too fast to give up much heat!
