2002 Excursion limited V10 4x4


Typical problems, adjar light on, radio stays on, remotes don't work but switches do, dome lights don't work with the opening or closing of the doors but do light up with dimmer switch and after key off. Kills the battery after sitting few days. Acutators are sluggish but work with two hits of the switch.


Replaced all of the latches from a issue free doner truck. Had an independent shop scan it and was told it was a bad GEM. Bought an OEM replacement part from the Ford dealer, independent shop installed and was told that they reprogradmed it. Still has all the same problems. I rescanned it today 1 code, 4x4 actuator inop. Also the scanner was not able to interface with the security diagnostics. Is the VSM a separate module or is it integrated into the GEM on a 2002? Next stop options are the dealer, for sale as is, or more insanity...

 

Have you tested the instrument cluster? It controls most of that stuff in 2002 and newer.

Just a thought.

 

Pretty sure 01 was the last year for the GEM. 02 and up should have a VSM.
