EZPASS is ok for super dutys?

I live in NJ and was just looking at some of the rules of ezpass. It says that I can have a max gross vehicle weight of 7,000 lbs on a personal account. According to fords website. for a 2015 f350 crew cab short box with the gas motor it weighs 6,922 dry. Meaning if i get in to drive it, the truck is then overweight according to ezpass. I have been using this tag on this truck for a year now on rare occasions. So i never really bothered to look into it. A new job I got requires me to use the tag on the turnpike 5 days a week twice a day. Does this mean i have to look into a commercial account? Thanks.

While I can't speak for NJ, I do have an EZ-Pass out of MA, and have used it throughout New England and in NY in my F250 CCSB with no issues, and I know my rig weights over 7K. Been running it for years, no issues at all with it being a personal account.

They are referring to your Gross vehicle weight (GVWR), not you actual weight. Your GVWR can be found on the door jam. The toll for dual wheels is higher than single wheels and I have cruised right through the tolls with no issues, when I tow my camper I have to stop and pay cash.

I've used ezpass all over the north east to Illinois and never had a problem with my dually.

I'm pretty sure you won't encounter a DOT officer with scales at a toll booth, but convert to a commercial account if it makes you feel better.

I pulled my 17k toyhauler with my 2015 F350 up and down the Ohio turnpike all summer with my personal account ezpass, no issues at all. Even used it on the WV turnpike going to Myrtle Beach. I wouldn't worry about it.

I am in Maryland and run my F350 4x4 Super Crew cab up and down the coast with no problems. EZ pass has never given me any trouble.

Not a problem - we used the one in our truck in many states this summer while hauling the 5er. NY did in one case charge me a commercial rate, but that wasn't any big deal as it only added a few bucks to my trip

if your plate number is listed on the ezpass...its up to the toll collector to figure out what your toll is.....for example....on the PA turnpike, your vehicle gets weighted at the toll booth and that determines your toll.

Hook on trailer... sail right through all tolls. I pulled up to the booth the first time I had the trailer on and the toll person said just use it as you normally would. Im towing a single axle 6X12 enclosed cargo job site trailer. So not heavy but its another axle on the ground so I was confused, still am. Been doing it for 2 years, no Toll police at the front door...yet.

Pretty sure this is not the case. Many places now also have express lanes where you don't even need to slow down. Rates are based on vehicle class.

The Illinois IPass system measures your vehicle as you go through the lanes. An F250/350 or even a dually will pay the same as a car. If you are towing a trailer you are classified as small truck, medium truck or large truck. Doesn't matter what you weigh, just how long you are. Towing a 800lbs single axle Jet Skii cost the same as a 5,000lbs dual axle boat, about 3x's the car rate. Try towing your 26' car hauler and it's 6x's the car rate. Don't even think about going through the manual lanes unless you have a big pile of money to spend.
