Welcome to FTE! That is a very nice truck, and as you have found out, one of the most comfortable and capable vehicles ever made. You have come to the right place

Thats a way sharp pickup. How about some details about it, and what plans do you have for it?

thank you for the compliments. it helps this truck-novice.

we purchased the truck because we needed a vehicle for our camper and perform light duty around the property - i.e. hauling fire wood, going to the dump, etc.

pros:
- 279k miles
- everything works
- very little show of wear inside. no smells either
- no visible rust
- paint in very good condition.
- previous owners provided excellent care
- starts up when cold
- transmission shifts up/down smoothly as expected

cons:
- small oil leak from front of engine. not enough to mark the ground
- the truck has been converted to use either diesel or veggie oil. not certain if it works yet.
- body has a few door dings, but nothing terrible
- power steering goes out sometimes at idle speed. suspect pump?
- canopy has small crack in the fiberglass

i'm currently sourcing a mechanic that can baseline the truck - flush all fluids, verify the veggie oil conversion, etc. i'm not a fan of the tires, but they're almost new. once we've worn through them i'll replace with something a bit more aggressive.

other than that i'm currently researching this site, many of the sticky posts to learn about these great trucks. i'm very impressed with it's build quality and feel as if i'm untouchable while driving.

Sounds very much like you have never driven a pickup before? I had a car once, it got in a fight with a telephone pole about a week after i got it running.

ha! this is my first truck, but didn't think it was that obvious.

i've got a weakness for old german cars which consumes my daily life; however, i'm quickly becoming a fan of trucks.

Look for a turbo kit, and you will really be a fan. Welcome to the world of trucks. IDIs are more of an obsession than a hobby for me. Ive always been more of a go anywhere guy, than a go fast guy. Also, when youve driven tractors and semi's all your life, its hard to get into a mid size soup can and feel safe. I do have another car now, the Fairlane, but its alot different than an 87 Escort GT

I get one thing done on mine, then see something else to do. Upcoming project is to make the seats heated and recover in ultra leather.

Heated seats sound appealing. Is there a kit to make this task "easy?"

Went to the dump today. Truck weighed in at 7300+. I was under the impression these trucks were closer to 6k lbs. Anyone know the accurate weight?
